Reviews by Free as a Bird

Pros: Beautiful, curious
Cons: Shy
I have one Barnevelder hen in my flock. She is never mean to the other chickens. She is definitely my best looking chicken. Whenever anyone looks at my flock, they always point her out as their favorite. Most are surprised "a chicken could look like that!". However, she is very shy and nervous. She is the last to try any new treats and is the lowest on the pecking order. I held her very often as a chick and even after that she is still cautious around me. I would recommend this breed if you are prepared to work a lot with it at a young age!

I have a Barny in my flock as well. It is very shy, doesn't seem to even like to be around people. Chewy is the lowest in the pecking order, and sometimes even gets pecked on. She is quite a gorgeous bird though
Pros: Very cute puffy cheeks, sweet
Cons: Not very smart
I love Piper. I really do. Even though she is second in the pecking order, she is never mean. She always runs over to see me.
Also she is gorgeous! Her colors came in gold and black. Also the big puffy cheeks make me laugh all the time.

As I said earlier, she does have one big disadvantage. Her smarts (or lack there of). She doesn't really get clothes. Not just the zippers or tags like regular chickens. She doesn't get the actual cloth.

Barred Rock

Pros: In the title!
Cons: None yet!
I have a young Barred Rock named Lizzy. She might be my favorite of my new birds! She is definitely the most friendly.
When I sit down in their pen, she jumps onto my lap. She sometimes stays there until I leave and have to move her off.
She is so sweet, energetic, and her feathers are gorgeous!
She is too young for eggs, but I can't wait!

Pros: Beautiful, Nice eggs
Cons: Controlling
I had one of these in my original flock. She added some lovely color to the backyard. Her eggs, that came about 4 times a week, were a pretty tan color. The only thing wrong about her was that she was the top of the pecking order and a little bossy.
