Brahma

The Brahma is an Asiatic breed of chicken. The first Brahmas were brought to the United States in...

! They are so sweet and easy to tame

. My two favorite chickens-Daisy and Zorra are this breed and they are the nicest chickens ever. They are good mothers and good layers. This is the most perfect chicken!!!
Pros: Extremly sweet/gentle, social, talkative, beautiful
Cons: As long as mine lays, there are no cons!
If you want a chicken for a pet, this is your chicken. This chicken easily has the strongest personality of my chickens, and always puts smile on our face. She is extremely talkative, and full of antics. She has entire conversations with us, and it is hard to get a word in! I am surprised at how light on her feet she can be for a large bird. This bird is very docile and easy to handle. She is very easy to pick up, as well as set down. I would venture to say that at least this one is cuddly. They are beautiful birds and are pleasing to the eye. So far she has been a reasonable layer too. Winter and confinement have not been a problem. The feathered feet animate this bird, but once muddy and soggy become far less attractive. Not the best forager, likes free handouts.

Pros: Beautiful
Cons: Moody
I bought a Brahma chick last year and to my surprise it was a rooster. Do not get me wrong he was great as a little chick....but man he got really aggressive once he started to crow. My girls love to jump on my lap for a good pet and he would attack them once them jumped down. He actually tried to keep one of them away from me all together. I am sorry to say I got rid of him....to a family that wanted a rooster for their farm. They tell me he is not aggressive now, I guess they had the magic touch?

Pros: EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!
Cons: feet get dirty, never bothered me tho
So I love this breed, i had one named Joey who I just loved so much! They are sweet, and pretty. It only comes in 3 colors (that i know of) but I love the colors they come in. I have no problem about their feet getting dirty, but it bothers some people. I never kept Joey long enough for her to lay but Ive heard they arent the most reliable but I dont care the least bit, they are so sweet and cute that its worth it. I would have a flock of only these if i had to choose one breed
Pros: good pictures
Cons: don't show address or prices
How much for 2 brahma hens? 1 white 1 red. Is your store located in texas(rio grande valley)?
Pros: Very calm, quiet, and friendly. Broody.
Cons: feathered feet, not as productive as rocks
I got my Light Brahmas from fertile eggs bought online. Hens and roosters both were beautiful, soft-feathered, and extremely docile. They make great pets as chickens go. Egg production was so-so, with the hens laying medium to large eggs year round, but skipping lots of days. Roosters showed no aggression. Females accepted lots of matings and ended up bare-backed (3 roosters to 35 hens), but were not bottom of the pecking order. They faired well free-ranging, and didn't visit the feeder very often. No trouble with soft-shelled eggs despite hens reaching over 2 years old.

Hens went broody quite a bit, with 1 or the other setting eggs every year. They were good mommas, raising the entire brood without trouble. The thick, soft feathers allowed hens to cover lots of eggs and later to brood lots of chicks, even in the damp of late April.

Carcasses were very good, especially when young, being almost as good a quality as that of the Buff Orpington. Meat is moist and tender. Even spent hens had respectable amounts of meat that was not as tough as you might expect from a free-roaming 3 year hen.

The biggest drawback for us was the presence of feathers on the feet and legs. Our area is very humid, and our flock spends lots of time foraging in harvested crop fields. The Light Brahmas ended up carrying a load of mud on their legs during wet weather. However, it never seemed to present a problem for the hens...it just bothered me. Years later, we still have LB genetics in the flock, seen as bits of leg feathering in the crossbred descendents. Those birds are usually fast-growing, docile, and friendly, definitely genetics worth keeping in the flock.
Pros: Big placid birds, beautiful,
Cons: Diggers
If I were starting my flock over, I'd consider having all Brahmas. I just love these birds. They are beautiful, calm and peaceful and have been good layers for me. I love that they are big girls, and their feathered feet. Mine are big diggers and like to spend afternoons wallowing in dust baths. They are a delight.

Only had 1 Light Brahma hen and she was a joy. Good layer of big brown eggs,Occasionally broody.
Loved watching her out in the yard. Laid an egg about every other day or so.
Pros: Calm, quiet,
Cons: poor feed conversion
I just love my brahma's (Hens: 2 light, 1 buff, 1 dark; Roos: 3 dark). The hens are as sweet as can be and are the first ones to greet me when I am in the run. I imagine that is because I almost always have goodies and they really like to eat. I make sure they get plenty of exercise so they don't get fat. My roos are friendly with me, but can be a little aggressive with kids if they don't have a place on the pecking order yet (there is that potential with all roos though). The boys have fended off hawks and dogs (3 really giant roosters that are always together make quite an impression I guess). I don't get a ton of eggs from these hens, but they make up for it in sheer size of eggs (can't fit them in the jumbo cartons). I am not sure if this is typical or not.

They are a joy to look at with their big fluffiness bobbing across the yard.

Leroy, our head rooster in charge (well cockerel until april, I can't believe he isn't done growing yet)

Pros: quite, calm, non aggressive
Cons: tend to get "fat" and stop laying
I have one bantam, Buff Brahma, Goldie My-ear, because, to me, she looks a little like a certain lady Prime minister of the last century. :) Goldie is the largest of the bantams and is almost as big as a regular hen.
I find she is VERY calm, but isn't particularly friendly, although she allows me to pick her up and tolerates hugs. She has NO aggression towards people.
Goldie is very quiet, softly talking to herself and just hanging out. She started laying at about 51/2 months and has been pretty regular, laying nice size speckled light brown eggs. Since she has gotten a little older (she's almost 4) she has tended to get a little "fat", which, from what I understand, is something some Brahma's tend toward, and has stopped laying.(she normally laid year round). It's early spring, so she hasn't been boogieing around as much (although she not a big "mover or shaker"), but I've "kicked" her outside and have been making her move more and it looks as if she's going to start laying again.
I have recently order 4 more chicks, their calmness and quietness has impressed me that much.
hey i would like to get some eggs to hatch myself if anyone has any thay could send me inbox me? i would get some eggs to send back and keep you updated thanks.

Pros: easy care
Cons: doesn't like being a loner
I just barely bought Verna and from what I see she's very friendly and social. I've heard many things about her type and she's a very sweet pet. Since she's a chick, she has light blue baby feathers and sticks to the bigger chick, Venus.

Very humorous, very friendly, and very beautiful hens. We had a Light Brahma that was killed by a neighbor's dog and a Buff Brahma that survived it. The Light Brahma has been irreplacable as the best and brightest of the flock. An enormous bird who always brought a smile to my face whenever I stepped out side. The Buff didn't begin laying until 34 weeks and hasn't quite lived up to the "tame" standard set by the Light.

5 stars for the Light Brahma
3.5 stars for the Buff Brahma
Pros: Docile, Beautiful, Good Foragers, Amazing Rooster
Cons: Feathered Feat Get Picked At
I got mine as three week olds, so they are not as friendly as the day old birds I've always worked with. My rooster is a great one, he is docile and takes very good care of the hens.

Pros: Gently, great size, beautiful
Cons: None yet
Enjoy my Light Brahma girls, they are wonderful chickens.
Pros: Pretty, big fluffy butt
I bought one hatchery bird, now 2 yrs. old. I have no idea what her laying rate is. She's kind of skittish despite the fact that I handled her daily as a chick. She's easy going otherwise. I don't think I'd get another one, but she's so pretty to look at I'll keep her.
