Pros: Was able to order 1 of each breed I wanted.
Fantastic Customer Service
Changing your order is simple
Cons: Shipping was expensive for small orders, but worth it IMO
Was so pleased with my experience with MPC (my pet chicken). They answered all my questions, made suggestions on breeds for my climate, allowed me to change my order as many times as I wanted up until the Thursday before hatch day (Mondays) and all my babies showed up healthy and thriving, Will absolutely order from them in the future. Since they are still babies I cannot tell if they were sexed correctly, but I have faith in this company.
re: mypetchicken.com
I like that the maximum isn't set too high for small farms like we have. I only wanted a few, not 50! All 8 arrived healthy and hungry, but are growing at am amazing rate! They also responded to me very quickly with any questions or concerns I had.
On the site, it says they do not give a "shipped" notice and no "tacking" numbers. But they did both! We have been very happy and will order from them again!
Years ago I used a hatchery out of Cameron, TX where Ideal is located called Hornung Brothers. They have long since gone so I use Ideal and they have always done me right. One thing I used to love about the old Hornung Brothers was every year the would send us this big beautiful calendar with chickens featured every month. They were so awesome.
I ordered 6 day old pullets from them. I got 5 pullets and one roo. The roo was an EE, and I understand they can be hard to sex. In retrospect, I'm actually glad I ended up with a roo. He saved one of the girls from a hawk and always alerts them when a neighborhood dog is on the loose.
A little info on Murray McMurray. I received my chick a week ago (27 Jan 13). I ordered 47 total chicks of various breeds. I even went as far as to call my main post office hub and ask them to call me and I would pick them up whenever they got there. I received the call at 11:00pm on a Sunday. I drove the 2 hours round trip to get them faster to reduce the stress....if I had waited to get them from my local post office...who knows how many more would have died. 2 of the chicks were DOA in the box when I opened it. Later that day 3 more died. And the next day 3 more died. 1 day after that I only lost 1. Also, I ordered 4 Golden laced Wyandotte's...they didn't ship them to me. Their was a sticker on the inside of the box that said they said they ran out. Now keep in mind I ordered these chicks 3 months in advance. So there's no excuse for not sending them.
OK, now I have 3 chicks with crossed beaks and 1 with an eye problem. I will probably cull them tomorrow.
I would suggest trying to find a local hatchery around you and buy them from there. I am not happy at all with McMurray. Although their people were very nice on the phone each time I called...I believe their chicks are sub-standard. Be prepared to lose a 1/4 of them due to death or sub standard breeding.

I just bought eggs from them. They handled everything that came up. My only gripe was really about the post office service - the shipments ended up being two days apart, but it wasn't MyPetChicken's fault. I am happy so far. We'll see in 3 weeks how my eggs turn out.
I just got 15 chicks from Paul Smith who is in TX. They arrived in great shape. One DOA and when I emailed him about that, he sent me a refund check. Will Definitely order from him again. Worth the extra price not to have the stress of dead/dying chicks.
That's like $10 a chick. WOW. I would have given you some free Ameraucana chicks if you lived close and didn't want them to be show quality, just wanted the blue eggs. (I'm gonna have about 40 of them I don't want when the elementary schools get done hatching my eggs.)
Any chance you are in Michigan, lol? I would donate a working worm bin (with red wigglers) in exchange for your chicks . Kids love worms! You could start a cafeteria waste composting project if your school doesn't already do that!
Umm, these are very good show quality ams. If you just want blue eggs, any feed store selling EE's will do. I have several $1.69 blue/green/olive eggers, and I absolutely love them.
