The Easter Egger is not really a breed. They are relationed to the breeds Ameraucanas and Araucanas, then bred with many different breeds so they no longer fit either breed's standards. They usually have muffs and pea combs, but come in nearly every variety and color, some even have ear tufts or are rumpless. Each EE is different, but overall they are usually a smaller bird that lays pink, green, or blue eggs. They are normally friendly and calm, and their colorful eggs make them a popular choice in backyard flocks.

friendly and docile

Mercedes is a great hen. She is a bit skittish and flies out of the brooder, but she loves to be held. Can't wait to see her colorful eggs

Super friendly!
Pros: They love people, mine run up to me every time I walk in there
They're very cuddly, and mine really enjoy hugs
Cons: Rather loud if you don't give them attention right away
Mine tend to peck me if I don't pet them soon enough
Easter Eggers are one of the best "breeds" there are. I've had seven so far, and all of them have been super sweet. They're the first ones to greet me in the morning, and whenever I squat down, they run up to me for hugs. One of mine is blind, and she makes a LOT of noise if I go out there and don't say hi to her right away. Once I pick her up and snuggle her she quiets down instantly.

Amazing birds, five stars, would recommend!

anybody know where I can purchase an Easter Egger in the Boston Metro West area? Preferably 6 mos. to a year old?

Best roosters ive ever had! We were hoping for hens but both our boys defied expectations and are very well behaved and gentlemanly whith our girls even when the ladies are in a truly fowl mood theyre very attentive. plus
They've remained un-aggressive even when not hand raised and like to eat from your hand and show off. Hoping I'll get some hens next batch and breed up these

Does an Easter Egger always lay the same color? I have two of them and I only get green eggs, so I'm assuming I'll never see a pink or blue egg. Is that right? They are quite skittish compared to my Buff Orpingtons and Novagens. My one Australorp is by-far the most anti-social. I am guessing that is because she is the only Australorp I have.

Yes, they don’t change colors. I have 2 EE’s. Goldie lays only green eggs, and Brownie lays only brown egggs. That’s right, some EE’s will lay brown eggs. And they are not as “sweet” as my Grey, my Blue Wyandotte either.

I have 1 EE and one Australorp. The EE is definitely skittish in comparison. And more noisy. Nice green eggs though! And continues to be a good layer, even though she is over 4 years old

My hens are super sweet and will follow me around the yard. They are very beautiful and lay large pretty blue eggs. I also have an EE rooster and he is truly stunning, he crows quite a bit and I just love it. Truly one of the prettiest rooster I've ever seen.

I have (had - just lost 1) 3 EEs. One lays a light blue/aqua, another lays a light blue - green with a faint overtone of olive, and the third lays a light olive-green egg. The basic colors have been consistent, but occasionally the coloration is a little weaker. Great layers!

My EE is the absolutely smartest chicken in my flock. She figures out how to get what she wants and does it! At 6 years old she is still giving me 1 to 3 beautiful eggs a week. She is fairly low in the pecking order, and not the friendliest, but doesn't mind a little petting now and then. Even though some of her offspring don't look like her, I'm getting blue and green eggs from them. The one that does look like her lays brown eggs.

‘Ameraucana’ is a pure breed but the variation in spelling (‘Americana’) has become popular to identify Easter Eggers. It’s a bit misleading but I notice several hatcheries are using that term to describe their EEs now.

My Spazzy is very alert & comes running when I call her name! She’s fairly low on the pecking order as well. I think it bcz she at the least partially blind. I love her dearly! She lays daily!!

No Roos here in my neighborhood! I had a lil Frenchmen roo... my neighbor the crazy one, threatened w calling authorities! No Roos allowed!!

I also heard sometimes they are mixed with Marans to get the green eggs. Is this true?
Mine is definatly the friendliest hen i have. She is the same size as my Rhode island red and I get 6-7 eggs a week and they are larger than my barred rock and reds.
