    Do you change the shavings?

    I change mine out every three months and sooner if they get wet. I spread mine around tree trunks and bushes for fertilizer. some is mixed into my grden area. But my chickens free range on 3 acres, so alot less poo inside than most I would guess.

    You could make a big batch of cornbread with black pepper...that is what my grandmother always did when hers quick laying. I have an Uncle that swears to put pepper in the water and they will drink more of it to help produce eggs. For a couple of bucks both are worth a try...hope they lay soon.

    The heat has really lowered my egg production...I have had several days of less than my normal 4 dozen, so maybe it is just heat.

    over-heated chickens?

    I have a small puddle that is for my overflow when I turn on the water and turn it off...so it keeps about 3-5 inches of water and they love it...just to walk thru and cool their feet...
