Bantam Marans adventure

I am excited to read about bantam Marans. I just won an auction for them and should get the eggs Wednesday. I am looking forward to hatching some of my own.

Thanks for sharing the information about them.

no problem.

I feel like this breed is a lot more flighty than my other bantams.... but I have cochins, ameraucanas, and silkies.... you dont really get more docile than those!

soon I am going to change the feeder so that they have less of a continuous food supply.. that way they will associate me with food... and get excited to see me rather than try to hide in the corner! gotta win them over.

Hi! Do you have pictures of what yours look like now? How old are they?

I just hatched my first bantam marans yesterday and am anxiously awaiting to see how they are going to turn out.

I hatched out 9 bantam Marans this week too. I have 6 that are black with white dots on their heads, one that looks just like my black coppers when they hatch, and two that are white on both sides and black in the middle. I can't wait to see what they grow up to look like.

All of mine hatched out black, most with the white spot on the head, I think there is one or two solid black but no where near as white on the sides as yours and I have one of the blacks with the white dot that has feather legs all others are clean legged. This is my first time with them as well.

Most of the bantam Marans are clean legged and the proposed standard by the MCCUSA is for feather legged like the large fowl.

Also the size is a problem with the bantam Marans as most are around 3.5 pounds as adults.

Proposed weight is 32 oz for Cocks, 28 oz for Hens and Cockerels and 24 oz for Pullets.

Hope you have a good hatch.
