Bantam Marans adventure

bantam marans are just about exactly half size of lf marans. if you have a marans that is half size, i would consider it a bantam. try keeping the size down in next generations. if you have a small roo, keep that one and breed back to the small female. just watch out for inbreeding!

Thanks I will read through the info. The smallest rooster I have is a blue copper who is really light colored. I still wouldn't say he is really small though just smaller than the other monsters lol. Her father is a normal sized blue roo. I only have other true (BBS blue) marans males that are related to her right now, father and brothers.

also, the aim for bantam marans is 1.98 lbs for a hen and 2.4 lbs for the roosters. i cant wait to weigh mine when they are grown.

eta: do you know what yours weigh? i just bought a scale recently... i am getting a little ahead of myself. lol

also, in case anyone is wondering, my marans are not french, but i do want to breed in the feather leg characteristic of the french. feather leg breeds are my favorite

I just read that about the weight. I will try and weigh her tomorrow and take some pics of her next to a nomal sized marans hen. It has been pouring rain here all day and everything is horrible and muddy. I don't know if she wieghs under 2 lbs., probably closer to 3, but I've never thought to weigh her so who knows lol.

It will be fun watching yours grow up. I hope you keep posting photos.

this is my Golden Cuckoo boy who is a first generation Cuckoo, BC cross. He has better color than any other golden cuckoo I have seen. this picture doesnt do him justice, but his color is nice. And he has feathered shanks, so you can get Golden cuckoo in the first generation, all his sisters were Black Coppers, he was the only rooster out of that group.

Chase: He is gorgeous! Will you breed his sisters back to him or to the original Cuckoo roo? I wonder if it will improve the egg color of the golden cuckoos? I bet it would.
