I have been brainstorming for nesting box ideas. While sitting in my living room the other night with the family, I looked over at our small two shelf bookcase and it hit me! I grabbed an older two shelf book case and turned it into a laying basket. I currently have 6 birds that are all laying...
I'll take a stab at this. Im new to owning chickens but I'd imagine that the best thing to do would be to keep each pair quarantined away from each other pair for a week or two. THen when you are sure that none of the pairs have any disease/illness, put them in the same coop, but keep them...
Yep! It's called "easement". If you if you build a fence inside of your property line that decreases the space on "your side" and increases the space on "thier side", after a certain length of time, the neighbor can make claim against you to keep your property.
Personal example.... When I lived...
Two weeks ago I added two hens to the flock. The first morning the leghorn ran off. I couldn't fin her. Turns out she has been living in the woods down the hill from my house, on my neighbors property. I went down to try to coax her with chopped canteloupe, tomorrow's and crackers. She wanted...
My hens have only started laying within the last couple weeks. I noticed occasionally when rinsing brown eggs in hot water, that little brown spots would appear on the egg shell. I didnt think anything of it. Then yesterday I found a small brown egg in the grass next to the coop. I assume it was...

I got my first egg the other day. It was on the floor if the coop, in front if the box. Then two days later, another in the same spot. Today I found this inside the box!
Ok! Thanks!
I've ha brown, fresh eggs before. But never my own. Te ones I've ha we're not free range so I think that may explain the color difference.
Yes, my girls eat tomatoes. They sneak in the garden and eat tomatoes, and cantaloupe. But their favorite to eating the pumpkins!
