Hi everyone! I'm Angela and I live in Mississippi. I never ever thought I would ever have chickens, much less get attached to them. Last spring my second grader came in from school very excited. Her class was going to hatch some baby chicks. My little one loved the adventure and came...

Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

Here's an update on the little meaties. I've limited their feed intake and their growth seems to have slowed a bit. They're still much bigger than the other chicks their age, but they're not so big that they can't support their own weight. And for whoever told me to either harvest them, or...

Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

Quote: Well hubby is the one with no clue. He just decided on his own that our daughter needed some for Easter. It didn't matter that we had a banty hen sitting on eggs that were due to hatch less than a week after Easter. (All 7 hatched and we have 7 of the cutest, tiniest little banty...

Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

Thanks so much for all the responses. I'm convinced now that ya'll are right and they are meaties. They are little pigs. I don't have anything at all against anyone who harvests their own meat, but it's not for me. I'll take care of them and we'll just take it day by day.

Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

The chicks came from TSC. Hubby said 3 were supposed to be Leghorn Pullets. The other three.........he couldn't remember what they were. When I went to TSC last week to look for supplies, the only chicks they had were labeled "assorted"

Leghorn chicks - Is this normal?

My husband came home with a half dozen baby chicks from the feed store a couple of weeks ago. We've had chickens for several years but not familiar with leghorns (which 3 of the chicks are). They've grown extremely fast in the past couple of weeks and have huge feet and legs. One of them more...

    JUNE HATCH-A-LONG come join in

I'm on day 8 with 5 eggs from my big girls who absolutely REFUSE to go broody. I've got a broody banty sitting on them now. (She's such a good little momma.) I candled and it looks like one's not good. I couldn't tell anything about the other 4. I guess my light isn't bright enough.

    FINALLY! A broody hen!!! YAY!!!!

One of my little banty hens went broody last week and has been sitting on eggs in the pet carrier ever since. She gets out for a few minutes in the morning, eats, drinks and stretches her legs a bit and goes right back. This is our first and I'm so excited!!!

Eggs in the fridge since yesterday. Can they go under a broody hen?

I think one of my hens is finally broody! My husband put 9 eggs in the fridge yesterday. Are they still hatchable? I've laid them out and thought I would try putting them under her. Thanks!

    Bully Banty

Hi all. I've had chickens about a year and a half now and can't imagine being without them. I've got 5 laying hens at this time.. We lost 2 hens and a rooster last spring to a raccoon. Since then, the rest have been safely tucked away in my back yard. I know they need to go back to their...

HELP!!!!! What can I do about my spoiled hens????? BIG PROBLEM!!!

Oh I think it's funny as heck too. I guess I've spoiled them a little because I'm afraid they've been tramatized by seeing their friends get killed. Right now only one of them is sitting at the door and she's grooming herself.

HELP!!!!! What can I do about my spoiled hens????? BIG PROBLEM!!!
