My BOs and BRs have just about stopped laying - any suggestions?

I have 5 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Barred Rock hens that will be 2 yrs old this coming Mother's Day. We get 1 or 2 eggs a day, sometimes no eggs, and then there will be 6 eggs. Are my ladies getting to the end of their egg laying days? Thanks for any insight.

How much do you guys charge for eggs?

I have one customer who pays $3/doz and one customer who pays $2.50/doz (because they are not fed organic pellets). I let my customers choose what they wanted to pay. The $ from egg sales just goes to buying pellets.

My chicken is making a weird sound....

She is telling you to get away because you are disturbing her. We have one hen that makes this noise if she is in the nest box and you get near the box.

Is anyone else having to clean their coop in the dead of winter?

I caved and had to clean out the shavings this weekend. The dust was unbelievable and it was hard for me to breathe in the coop. The girls seemed to appreciate the new shavings too.

When do you let your hens out

Our ladies go out in their run every day, unless the temp is below 15 degrees. When they get cold, they go into the coop.

Big question, why did all of you new chicken owners get chickens?

On Mother's Day last year, my son and husband gave me 8 chicks to fill my empty nest because our son was going off to college in the fall. We love to just sit and watch our ladies. It is so relaxing. We have two Adirondack chairs in the yard near our coop that we sit in and enjoy interacting...

Who are your favorite egg layers?

My two favorites are BOs Nadine and Sophie. They are like Mutt and Jeff. Hang together in the yard and lay their eggs together in the coop.
