Does it matter that they were just rinsed off to get the bedding/poop off from them? I have eggs about 7 weeks old but they seem perfectly good and taste awesome! I rinsed them in cold water then they immediately went into the fridge....weren't covered in poop but a few speaks here and there.
I love my 'babies' from TSC -- good luck with the rest knowing what sex they are!!!! I had to wait several weeks before I knew for sure. Sounds like you have a big chicken flock -- I'm down to 4 hens now -- had to get rid of 1 hen and 1 rooster tonight.
My rooster & hen left tonight to an awesome farm with SO much acreage - I know they will be happy but it was hard to get rid of my hen -- she is 11 months old and I've had her since she was 2 days old. The rooster was easier as he was sooooo mean. But I know they will be happy and I know my...
I got 3 a year ago -- 3 were pullets and the other 3 straight runs --- all ended up being roosters!!! I have no clue as to how to sex a chicken. I gave away 2 of my roosters and got a Rhode Island Red & a Branty to replace them -- other 3 were all Black Stars, which are awesome layers. Good luck!
I love my Black Stars as well but can't have this attitude issue with this hen & my rooster --- not getting attacked by them again!!!!! I may have to get rid of the rest of my chickens, which breaks my heart, but it depends on where I can find to move to as my house is for sale. Bummed about...
I have an 11 month old Rhode Island Red Rooster (can be aggresive) and an 11 month old Black Star Hen (one of my best layers who lays HUGE eggs) that I am willing to give away -- they are both causing too much trouble in the hen house. If you know of someone in the Grand Haven/West...
I appreciate your response -- I was told to deworm the chickens after the 1st rooster died since I have no clue what he died from! He is going to the vet tomorrow to have wings clipped & spurs trimmed down so maybe he'll be good and leave a 'present' in the box for me as well - that way they...
Where are you at in MI? I'm in Lower Michigan - west side of the State near Lake MI and we have lots of snow for sure!!!
Question about de-worming chickens. After my rooster died, I de-wormed all my hens (they are 9 mo old). Now I have a new rooster who hasn't been de-wormed. How often do...
I have cabin fever too!!!! Minus the horses, it looks about the same weather wise here & I'm in MI!!!!! More snow - about 6" I guess forecast for sometime between now & Sat. I need it to warm up, snow go away so I can plant my garden :) I'm so tired of ice and snow.
Got a new rooster Sun...
Your rooster in your picture looks just like my Max did. I sure will miss him. He was so good to the hens & just a really good rooster. What should I do for the hens since I don't know what Max died from? I cleaned everything good & replaced bedding and it was suggested I de-worm the hens --...
I would like to thank everyone who has been so kind to me -- I did everything I could, just wish I knew what was wrong with him. I think the de-worming the hens is a good idea --- will stop while I'm out & get what I need. Thank you all for your help as well. And yes, I am glad I could return...
Thank you -- we did get him buried & will put a little cross there for him as well. I cleaned out my coop really good & put all new bedding in - is there anything I need to do for my hens since I don't know what my rooster died from?
I will do anything - even the vet -- if I can help him. I can't bear to lose him. I'm going to bring him inside and give him some Pedialite and see if that helps along with some mealworms. I have to try everything and anything -- just can't watch the worse case happen if I can help it. He is...
He has never been wormed to my knowledge and his feet and lets appear to be ok. His comb/wattles are still good and red but he is just listless -- I will get some liquids for him tomorrow and have already thought I would bring him inside, although he is in a heated coop but will bring him...
I have a 10 month old banty rooster who suddenly has not crowed in over 2 days and is just listless. Doesn't even get excited about treats brought to the pen. Tonight he was just laying in the pen & I picked him up and he never fussed - which he usually does if I try to pick him up -- he just...
My banty rooster is about 10 months old and always the 'life of the party' until 2 days ago. He hasn't crowed in over 2 days, just lays in the 'play pen' and tonight let me pick him up with no complaints (usually he fusses a lot if I try to pick him up). Something isn't right and I am very...
