Well.....I tried adding 5 chicks to my broody hen with her 1 single chick and she wanted nothing to do with them. She was mean!! I probably waited too long since her chick was already 8 days old. Oh well....there is a happy ending to this. I tried putting these 5 chicks into my silkie and...
The chick that hatched...I don't exactly know which hen is the mother. I have 2 production reds, 1 cuckoo maran, 1 white leghorn, 2 EE's, and the broody that hatched the egg is a gold laced wyandott. I have a bantam rooter (black OEGB) that's been running in with the hens. The hens are much...
I have a very broody hen who has been sitting on eggs and at last 1 chick has hatched and is perfectly fine and healthy. Here's the problem.....now my hen won't sit on the remainder of the eggs since the hen is so obsessed with this chick. Hen and chick are separated from the rest of the flock...
I have a broody hen that's been sitting on eggs forever......and finally 1 beautiful chick has hatched. The problem is.....she no longer is sitting on the remainder of the unhatched eggs and is sooo happy with this one little chick. Chick (1 week old) and hen are doing great but I was...
My hen is sitting on eggs and I'd like to move her to another nest box in a separate pen. The reason is.....all my other hens keep laying more eggs in her box and she has way too many eggs under her. I've removed eggs several times and also tried to put up barriers for the other hens but...
I'm sure this question has been asked before but what is the best age to put my bantam's outside? I live in Tucson, AZ so the forecast this week is 67-79 during the day and 40-46 during the night. They will have their own coop with a heat lamp...they're getting too big for the brooder.
Does anyone have any ideas on what kind of chick this is?? I got it from my local feed store and they received an order of Frizzle chicks from Privett Hatchery in New Mexico. This does not look like any of the other Frizzles I received....no feathers on the legs and this one is a little...
Just to update everyone....I decided to put on a cover over the top of my pen. It's a sturdy hardaware cloth and I feel much better now. Just completed it today and will move my 4 hens into their new spacious home tomorrow. Now to figure out what to add to my flock. I presently have 1 white...
I have a small coop with 4 hens and my husband just built me a new large pen 20'x25'x7' so I can increase my flock. Here are my questions:
1. Should I put the new chickens in the new pen and then introduce my old hens to them in the new environment?
or the other way around?
2.What breeds...
I have a new pen for my chickens 20'x25' it's 7' tall and very sturdy. The top is open and I'm debating about how to cover it. There are 3 trees in the middle of the pen that don't really give too much protection at this point. I live in Tucson, AZ and the worst predators here are bobcats...
Thanks for you input...guess I'll just wait and see what happens. Yes, her eggs do have a very thin shell right now...hope this improves. She was one of my best layers till 2 months ago.
I'm wondering what's going on with my Easter Egger....she had been laying normal eggs up to 2 months ago when she started her molt. Then she was laying eggs without a shell. Just yesterday she layed a weird shaped egg and now today another. I'm giving my hens yogurt along with layer pellets...
