Hello I am wondering the same thing myself. I have a 1/4 acre my flock grazes and a large run for them as well.
Within a year we will be moving to our other property that has 2 acres they can graze on. We have beautiful
Bald Eagles with large wing spans that may become predators for our hens...
Thank you very much for the information.
I just called CVS Pharmacy they have Nystatin cream but you need a script for it.
Guess I will call my avian vet and ask.
Thanks for the information. Kodi
Hi Everyone,
It's been a while since I have been on here.
I have an Amerucauna her name is "Easter" and she has white beads on her rose comb.
Has anyone know what this is or seen this? I have been raising chickens for
one year now. Please let me know your thoughts her is a picture of her.
It is...
...Mornings:
Our automatic door opens at 7 a.m they come out into a enclosed run sheathed with plastic. It's colder in the mornings and actually 20* warmer in the afternoons with a southwestern exposure. Around 7:30 I go out to see them, check the water and throw them some scratch to warm their...
Hi Leilani
I live close to you half an hour away Longwood Gardens Area. My Rooster has severe frostbite from
last weeks low temperatures. I was concerned about infection so I took him to
an aviary vet in West Chester Boot Road Veterinary Clinic. His name is Dr Rob.
He was referred by New...
I love my Barred Rock Roo! He is a sweet boy but he does test me and then I just get stern in my voice and he settles down. This is when I pick up one of his hens. I just wave my arms and say "she my hen" and he backs off. I give him special attention when I throw the hens scratch i the morning...
I will show you some pics my Bar Rock Rooster from 3 days old (3/17/13) to maturity, I bought him with 3 others and he was distinctive in markings and behavior. He definitely ruled all the others. I just love him! I am lucky he is so sweet! It's good to have a rooster, at first I was upset...
Thank you Kathy! I will look to see if it is one eye or both first.
Both eyes are red! So maybe he needs an Ophthalmic Ointment.
Need to find out where I can get some of the ointment?
AT Present
Eye in October
Can someone help me with this?
My rooster "Bill" is not feeling well 8 months old.
Please look at the comparisons of pictures.
His eyes normally are gold in th bottom photo.
I just took a picture and his eye color is blood red, does this mean he has staph...
As you can see it is red and inflamed.
I see what I think is a normal pad, unless this is the beginning of Bumble Foot?
Cleaned his foot this up and I am concerned about the redness.
So if any one of you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
My poor Rooster is only 7 mos...
I think this tread will be helpful for newbies like myself. I live in Southeastern, Pa and the temperatures do not get
below freezing a lot till January. I am going to take greenhouse plastic which is a higher mill thickness and
put it on my run for the winter. I will use 1/2" strips of...
My "Bill" is great! Most mornings when i open the run door to let him and my hens
out for the day he wants to attack the hens. I don't know why he is so mean in the morning
he is only 6 mos old and he is huge. I have had him since he was three days old and hand
feed him scratch every morning...
Thank you all for replying. Yes she is a pretty little bird that
loves to talk to you when you come up to her. Apparently I found
her first egg under our raised coop in the sand while I was raking.
She must have laid her first egg on Wednesday, as I watched her along with some others
get in the...
I
Is this hen an Easter Egger or Ameraucana? She has olive legs
and she layed the egg on the right in the picture above her today.
It is green! I think it is pretty.
I had started a thread before about this and some said her eggs were
not dictated by her leg color?
I am just curios about...
I just learned from our local feed store that medicated food stays in the liver of the hen and is
not transferred to any eggs. This information was from the PH D's of Purina. What so you think?
Thank you for the information. Yes one more bag of chick starter feed our local feed store carries purina
and the protein content is 18%. Think I will look for a higher protein feed or the flock/multipurpose.
Have a nice summer! Kodi
p.s. Thank you for the compliment of my flock Percheron!
I am a new at raising chickens and need some help and understanding on some feeds.
My Flock consists of: 7 chickens different ages.
(4) pullets (1) turned out to be a rooster age: 14 weeks old (these are my original flock)
Then on May 24th I added
(2) pullets 11-12 weeks old Orpingtons
(1)...
I am so sorry this happened. What a nightmare!
I just cannot understand what made yellow jackets go after the babies.
What a wonderful idea about giving your hen the baby chick.
Best of luck with your little survivor! Kodi
