Can I stick shipped eggs under my hen right away?

I got 6 six shipped eggs, and bearing in mind I'm in the UK and the eggs came from just a few miles away, only one hatched. two were non starters and three were scrambled. was quite disappointed. I had little choice as I have no transport and am almost housebound here.

    worming a hen with chicks

I tried taking the chick away, she still stood there over it trying to tell it to eat the food, she's a very protective mother and will tell the rabbit and dogs off if they get to close, she even had a fight with her reflection in the glass of the TV stand, twice.
