the bigger one on the right is a drake or a male the smaller one is a hen or a female. congratulations when you think the hen has dissapeared she is sitting on eggs and will hatch in 5 weeks.
i use DE ( diatomaceous earth ) i mix it in with my shavings. i also am now mixing it in with my feed. we have alot less flies the ducklings love to eat the flies. that also helps out.. the are not in a coop all day as mine free range with their mothers.
I have a friend that only feeds wheat grains.. check your craigslist for farmers selling whole grains or cracked grains for sale you will find it much cheaper.
this is a six to eight week old baby scovy as its feathering and size says its a hen. i would stick with scovys if bread with anything else the babies will be mules and not fertile..

sounds to me like something might be spooking them or you have mice they are going after.. every americana i have ever had has been a better mouser than any cat i have ever had.. never seen anything like it and they will fight each other to get the mouse..
