I have an EE that started laying at 18 weeks. Now - 20 weeks. My Black Australorpe (same age) is still not laying. She doesn't act much like she's getting close yet either. I'm not sure.
My 20 week old BR has been honking off and on for a week. She seems irritated. I thought last week that she was gearing to lay an egg. She goes in the coop, hangs out in the nest, and honks like crazy. She just stands there and honks. then she goes out of the coop... back in and honks...
I have 4 hens (BR, EE, SS, and Australorpe). The EE started laying last Tuesday - 10 days ago. We've had 9 pretty little green eggs so far. The BR has been having a fit today, ba-gokkk-ing and carrying on - all day. She keeps running in and out of the coop. Sitting in the nest box, out of...

Yes it's been pretty hot here lately as well. 99 yesterday. About the same today, I think. She's my loudest hen anyway - she chatters and murmers every single time I even open the back door (even to let the dog in). So I figured she would be my loud layer. LOL Unfortunately, I...
I'm sitting here listening to my BR hollar and yell. I'm pretty sure she's trying to lay an egg because she's been in and out of the coop all morning (not characteristic for her), and she's pretty interested in the next boxes. She keeps rolling around the golf ball that's in there. LOL
My EE...
Got two more babies today!!
This morning we picked up:
1 BLR Wyandotte
1 Speckled Sussex
...to add to our already brood of:
1 Australorp
1 Barred Rock
1 EE
1 Silver Lakenvelder
Now... I'm pretty sure that those all total up to the allowed 4 hens that we can have here in our neighborhood...
Here she is.... at 10 days old or so. When she's grown, I think she should feather out to mostly white with a black head and black tail.
Thanks for looking.
I have a 12 day old Silver Lakenvelder that is proving all of the guide books and websites wrong! Most say that the lakenvelders are flighty, nervous, and tend to avoid human contact. Not this little one... he/she will jump up on the food jar as soon as I walk in the bathroom where the brooder...
I have 1 Silver Lakenvelder, but he/she is only 2 weeks old. I'm afraid I dont have much to offer. I did read on a couple of websites that they tend to avoid human contact and also tend to be a bit flighty and nervous. I can tell you though, that so far - our little Lakenvelder is the...
I've been trying to push my post count up so that I could post some pictures. I'm new here, so I hope I'm doing this right.
I am a new chicken Mama to 4 peeps. I got all 4 from the local feed store. 3 of them from "pullet" bins, and 1 straight run. I figure it's still probably too early...
I'm sure someone else can probably offer better advice, as I'm VERY new to this chicken Mama business. (Mine are about 12 days old). I did have one chick that was constantly obsessing over the other 3 chick's eyes. It seemed almost as if on purpose. I'm not sure what stopped the behavior...
You're in good company. I'm trying to push up my post count so that I can post some pictures to see if my little barred rock is possibly a roo. I heard about the slow-to-feather (on wings is what I heard)... being a possible indicator of being a roo. All of the other peeps we got have almost...

Hello!
I'm also a new to having chickens and would be interested in finding someone as well. I'm pretty sure that the fine folks of Highlands Ranch (where I'm located) might frown on backyard chicken processing. Lol.
OP here.... Yes, Highlands Ranch.
And this is fairly new - the HRCA approving having hens. Last year I looked for something written to no avail, and this year there has been a lot of chatter about it. There was even an article in the Highlands Ranch paper about having backyard chickens...
