She is a bantam Cochin hen, around a year or so old. I happened to be standing bear her when she pooped and saw this! It looks like angel hair pasta, and moves so I'm guessing its some sort of worm? What is it and what so I do? She has no symptoms of being sick.
My thoughts are that chickens are dual purpose. They give you eggs and they are theraputic to watch. (much like a fish tank). I have learned that if you have a bully chicken, don't keep her. It stresses out your brood as well yourself. I had a bully hen for a year and a half till I got sick...
I just dump a bowl of grapes out in my coop (no cutting up, sorry girls) and I really think it is hands down their favorite treat. Your girls are lucky if you've got grapes to share with them!
thanks for all the thoughts. I was getting discouraged at the thought of them being in the habit of picking out their own feathers. If it's a matter of needing roost space from now on, I can do that. We'll see.
I just got a bunch of new chickens to add to my flock. I was told they are a little over a year old. The majority of them have bare " picked" bellies. What does this mean? I am thinking how they used to roost, maybe it allowed for feather picking there as from on top they appear normal. And...
Out of my 8 layers, they ALL like the same box. I used to have two in there but the one that never gets used I finally took out as I figure why waste the space. I agree, the chickens line up to take their turn in the box. I have had a "chicken sandwich" a few times where 1 will climb on the...
I want to make sure I am feeding my chickens the right thing. As their poo looks funny to me, and they make a mess with the feed.
I am feeding my chickens pellets, says its 18% protein, sometimes they get scraps from the kitchen which means breads or vegetables. Sometimes they get scratch...
What does honey do? This is such an interesting thread, thank you OP for sharing and posting pics. As people help you, you and them all help all the rest of us. Sorry about your chicken. She's really pretty.
Thanks guys, especially for loading up pictures for examples. I really don't care what I have, I just like to be accurate when people come to my coop to be able to "talk chicken" and know what I have. I know the lady I bought them from ordered them from Mcmurray last spring, so I'll take your...
I just got 2 hens that I was told were Aracaunas. After reading on this site under chicken breeds, I have figured out they are not Aracaunas as my chickens have tail feathers and I understand that those types of chickens are tail-less.
But, when I read the descriptions on EE and Americaunas...
Thanks for replying.
I think they are the D'Uccles. I'll have to look at their combs and take note of the coloring etc. My other hens are starting to lay more as the light is getting longer. I read a really great article on here about hens laying and it said that there is a major decline...
