Well the girls are 10 weeks old today and we couldnt be more proud. They all get along pretty well just the normal sparing and pecking order. Otis our lone barred rock really likes to hang with herself and is the SUPER bug eater of the group, while the others investigate...
Thank you all so much, I believe I will be on the look out for a chicken sitter. You are right it is better to be locked up in coop than overly stressed out for 3 days.
Oh yes I am serious...
I was wondering if anyone had any experience, ideas or suggestions about this. Our chickens live at sea level in their home coop, but we have another coop up at the cabin which is at 3000 feet and an hour and a half away in the car. I wanted to find out if this was okay...
YES YES YES, all 4 of my girls are subjected to daily kisses.... and now that they are just starting to squat and getting ready to lay they are much easier to pick up and love on. and I am not ashamed to say it ! lol....
Our girls are 10 weeks old today, beards and muffs are coming in strong and everyone is healthy and strong. We found a good home for our Harvey and the girls are settling into their order without too much bickering.... 3 of them are easter eggers of course, they are all so easy going and...
I am checking in again, hopefully with girl as the answer. Well Otis looks like a girl to me now. Her ashy leggs have gotten darker and cover more of her toes and her coloring seems like a girl now ~ hope you all agree... (really I hope speckledhen agrees) Have a Beautiful Day.
We ordered all girls but named them all boy names just to be silly but Harvey may be a boy anyway which is heartbreaking since we lost 3 in the first week .
Thank you for your responses...
Thank you, after losing 3 in a row, going through the all nighters to keep them alive and still losing them we may be holding on a little too tight to Otis, she is very special. I think you are right the best thing to do is wait and see how she feathers in and what her comb looks like and just...
I cant believe I am actually asking, we have had such bad luck with our first set of chickens... I am worried but go ahead.. tell me what gender you think she is...
... these are her 2 week pics taken today, both taken in natural light no flash.
[edited to say 2 more picks below and...
Just wanted to give you all an update.... Brian and I moved the heat source away like a few of you recommended and saw some much needed improvement . After an all nighter and every 30 minute feeding sessions the lethargic chick is now eating and drinking on her own and seems to be on her way...

Yes, I agree...just move it upwards a little and see if that changes the amount of time they spend under it "sunning" - it sounds like normal chick behavior for the most part. How old are they now? Are you using a red bulb?
They are 8 days old and I do use a red bulb...
