    Waterer Questions

Hi I'm currently using a 3 gallon plastic heated waterer for my flock: http://www.tractorsupply.com/farm-innovators-heated-poultry-fount-3-gal--1011128 My two call ducks, 1 pekin, 3 Plymouth Rocks and 5 Buff Orpingtons finish the water very quickly and i have to fill it every night. Does this...

Do you think a 10' roost will be long enough for 12 chickens?

My six chickens (buff orpingtons) take up literally 2' of the 8' roost.

    how big?

You could probably get away with a coop that size, but I would make the run at least 4x12.

    T post Q

Thanks I plan to cover everything with aviary netting, so flying isn't an issue. Do you know if the posts you said were not sturdy were light or heavy duty? Anybody else?

    T post Q

Hi I am building a run using 5 foot high welded wire. I have some questioms about t posts: 1. What's the difference between a u post and a t post? 2. Should I use a 6' high t post for 5' high fencing? Basically, how much of The post needs to be in the ground? 3. Are light duty post ok, or...

How many days to incubate call ducks?

There is really no stop date. Most eggs take 26-27 days to hatch. Mine didn't hatch within this time period, so by the end of day 28 I helped them get out. If I hadn't assisted they would have most likely died.

i want to build a pond!

If a kiddy pool isn't adequate for your ducks, you can build a pond with a pond liner, or get a stock tank. Filtering a pond to maintain it gets pretty tricky, so I would just try to install a drain, so you can refill on a regular basis. Ducks are not in any danger swimming as long as they are...

    Dislocated wing?

Hi My pekin duck was born with a wing defect. It was abnormally shaped, had fewer feathers than her other, and was in an odd position. Her wing has been like this for almost a year now, but yesterday it started dragging on the ground. It looks like it is dislocated. I tried wrapping it, but...

    Is this plausible?

Hi I am trying to figure out how to move my 4x8 coop to a new area over somewhat rough terrain. I don't have enough people to lift it, so I thought I would put it on wheels so 3 or 4 people could move it. On the horizon structures website there are pictures of coops with caster wheels. I'm...

do I have room for more???

Manufacturers almost always say coops can fit many more chickens than they should. 6x4 is 24 sq feet. The recommended square footage per chicken is 4 feet. This would mean you could only fit 6 birds. Considering how large your run is, 11 is probably fine, but I wouldn't add any more.

    plastic waterers with red bottoms

One of mine had a crack on the red part that holds it in. It made it leak like like crazy.

My pond keeps evaporating i dont know why

Many times water loss in ponds is in the waterfall or filter and pump setup. Turn off the pump for a few days, and if you still are losing lots of water, you know you have a leak in the cement

    Call Ducks- Noise level?

My pekin is definitely louder than my calls when she wants to be. I think calls just make noise all the time, as apposed to my pekin who rarely makes noise, but when she does, she is very loud.

Ideas for a large enclosed run...40x24 ft

I don't know about chi-rn, but 2x4 welded wire has worked well for me. It has stopped foxes and bobcats from entry. If you use it, make sure to have hardware cloth 2 feet up the sides if you have raccoons, and I would skip it altogether if you have weasels or anything similar.

    Batams and Full size???????!

I have 1 pekin and two call ducks together. They do great, even in the somewhat small space they have when they are not swimming. If anything, the smaller call ducks are more aggressive.

    Sq Ft

The general rule is 4 sq feet in the coop and 10 sq feet in the run. I live in CT and find that my chickens spend very little time in the coop. Personally I think 2 or 3 sq feet in the coop and 20 sq feet in the run would be better.

Height of run to deter foxes

Does that mean they would be able to climb the fence and bite through the netting?

Height of run to deter foxes

Hi I'm building a new 25x25 run for my flock. My plan is to have a 4 foot high wire fence with an apron, and then have aviary netting for a roof, held up with a high pole in the center to give a tent effect. The only predator I'm worried about is red fox. I'm sure a fox could get through...

    How to move the coop?

Hi We have to move our coop to a new spot in order to make a bigger run. The new location is about 500 feet away over uneven ground . The coop is 4x8 and 6 feet tall. It took 5 people to move it to it's original location. Do you have any ideas of how to more easily transport this to it's...
