    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I suppose strange things just happen sometimes lol. But whats really baffeling is the fact that a few of the chicks are also feather footed and I have no feather footed chickens at all. I think the white hens had some feather footed bloodlines because they had a brother who was cochin but he is...

    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Well my orpington and the mixed breed ee's and the white hens (unknown breed) all had straight combs but I had thought the rose combs were dominant because all the chicks I have hatched prior to this particular set all came out with rose combs. So mysterious...

    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Ok I am so confused with my chicks hatched. The only 2 roosters I had breeding when I set my eggs were a GLW and a Dominique, both rose combed. Somehow I managed to get chicks with single combs... How? I didn't think that was even remotely possible. Anyone got any ideas?

Dont worry. They cold have moved while you werent looking. I think they secretly know when to wiggle so they arent noticed. Some breeds also take a little longer, and bator temps also play a large roll in the time it takes. I dont think high humidity would kill them so quickly. More...

    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Im not familiar with the brinsea models but I use a styro bator. When I didnt have a fan in it I had to add more water than the lower water wells allowed for to keep humidity up. I found that the bottoms of soda bottles once cleaned and disinfected worked wonders. I put 4 in the bottom and an...

    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Last month when I had 19 out of 21 hatch, there were several who pipped from the bottom side, large end. I let them do their thing and they hatched out just fine. I have never had one to pip on the small end tho so if thats whats going on Im not really sure what to say, aside from taking the...

    4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Ty, I figure best to be hopeful rather than feel doomed so early in the lockdown lol. You knowo I often wonder how much movement really goes on that we dont notice. I bet some of them are shy and they know when to move so we dont notice lol its a conspiracy of inner shell peeps haha. Hope you...
