thanks for the fast replies- much appreciated.
She is a year and a 1/2. Nobody else (knock on wood) is sick. The weather isn't too cold now, lows in the 40s. Nobody is picking on her yet.
I am going to google duramayacin.
thanks again- any other thoughts?
I have a chicken that is not doing well. She is pale, keeps her eyes closed, and sleeps most of the time. She doesn't free range with the other chickens, just stays in the coop. I have seen her eat and drink a bit. She has also gone in the nesting box to lay an egg.
My vet does not see...
One of my chickens is acting *off*. She is my flightiest, most difficult chicken to catch- my dd caught her easily 2 days ago. Yesterday I let the girls out for a bit while I was outside. She stayed in the coop. This morning when I went out to feed, everyone else was excited and running around...
thanks for the replies.
I have another broody with 4 chicks so far, expecting more. Maybe I can take her next 2- should I and how? Also, can you put two broody hens together?
My broody is sitting on eggs and has a few days left until I remove the eggs. Do I need to do anything for my broody once I take her nest away? Do I just take the eggs and leave?
As of Monday, my broody hen has been sitting on eggs for 3 weeks. Some eggs were added along the way (pencil rubs off eggs so I just left all the eggs in the nest).
She is now by herself in a cage within the coop.
This morning when I checked on her I noticed there were a few broken shells but...
...them until today.
The hen that I eventually caged up did get all puffy when another chicken walked up to her... but I am not 100% confident it is *her*. The original was a crazy broody. Screamed at you when you came by... this one didn't do that... but was staying on the eggs. Nobody else...
Not sure of the correct forum, so this is a cross post?
How many eggs can a chicken sit on? I have a buff who has quite a few under her. What is the most I can leave for her?
Also, can I use permanent marker to write on eggs?
thanks for the replies
I had quite an interesting morning. When I went to check on the chickens this morning, there were a few chickens in the nest with my broody and they were eating eggs! I suspect I had one start to hatch and they jumped on it. Ugh and ew!
I use kitty litter boxes with...
I am expecting my broody hens eggs to start hatching on Monday. Do I need to move the mom and the eggs? Or do I just take the chicks out and put em the brooder?

I have 2 broody chickens sitting on eggs. One is real nasty and I have a hard time messing with her eggs. I tried to mark them but the marks have worn off. What do I do? If an egg hatches, do I leave the others in there? How long? Should I separate the broody hens? Can they be together while...
Over a month ago a skunk got in one of my coops and ruffed up one of my chickens. The other chickens went after her so I removed her from the coop. I kept her in a dog crate, next to the coop, so everyone could still see each other. She recovered from the skunk deal but every time I put her back...
