My chickens have been loosing their feathers on their back. It's not all of them, but both genders. Is this mites? I looked around a bit and didn't see anything moving.
I'm starting to plan a place for my chickens coop and I have a spot under a deck with a lot of foliage around it and then a large open yard. Should I put the coop under the deck, out will they destroy my flowers? Thanks!
Hello everyone! I haven't been on here in a while. Busy with two boys, 2.5y and 8 mo. Crazy times! Just wanted to check in an hope that everyone is doing well. My cochins are doing well.... just broke a broody today. She is finally back out in the run. Though, picked on a bit by my roo. Silly roo!
Hello All!
I was wondering if I could get some advice for my chickens... I have 6 standard cochins, 1 male and the rest female. It seems as though some of my ladies have feathers missing on their necks. Last year I had a chicken who was picking feathers from others, causing bald spots. I...
Started out with what was supposed to be all pullets. But we were somewhat suspicious of the behavior of this little one. A little too brave- even with the camera.
Then the chick started getting waddles and a comb way before the others...
And it started being brave with the the neighbors cat...
My husband finally wore me down September of 2010, and we decided to get some chickens. I wanted a pretty chicken, and decided on getting standard Cochins. We ordered them from online, and on September 14th got the call from the post office that we had a package there that was peeping.
So far it...
She still hasn't changed too much. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a gape worm infection and just a regular respitory infection? I don't see any worms, but I would like to treat her with something so she doesn't have to suffer.
My husband and I just looked down her throat with a flashlight and didn't see anything. I tried to feel where I think her trachea is, but didn't notice any unusual bumps. There was a small bump in her throat, but the rest of the chickens have it too. It is just about a cm or so down from her...
Ok, I have uploaded a video of her. You probably only need the first minute or so, but I have included the entire thing, in case you need it. Please help! I don't want her to suffer... Has anyone had this happen to their chickens before?
I came home from work today and one of my girls is having problems breathing. For the past 2 weeks or so I have noticed that her breathing was a little more labored, but nothing major. Then today I came home and she was wheezing heavily and coughing/honking every once and a while. It seems like...

Hm... Well, the colors are easier than the other questions. The first one is definitely a blue cochin. Here is a picture of my little blue girls, at about 4 months.
So, I'd say that one is a Blue Cochin, though it looks like it might be a little boy. Here is a picture of the faces...
Bantams generally look the same as standards, they are just smaller. Here are a few pictures for reference...

That is OK, everyone! She is a really nice girl, except for this. We just got our first chickens this last fall and I am somewhat new to this. I have pretty much had it with her. My next step may be to butcher her, but I am not sure I can do it. I have a ton of friends who said they would take...
Hey all, I wanted to see if anyone in the Green Bay area would like a FREE chicken? I have 8 standard cochins, and one of the girls is being a bugger. She likes to pull the feathers out of the others. She will sometimes even try to eat them. I have tried changing her diet and putting her in...
