Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

I believe it is a raccoon, because it seems to fit their profile. But oddly enough I've never seen one out here, even though I've seen lots of skunks and possums, even coyotes and one bobcat, lots of hawks and owls. Even on the roads around here I've never seen one killed, but lots of skunks and...

Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Thanks whidbey. That was what I was thinking as well. I stayed up the night after to stake out the coop from the window that faced it, but he never came back. My plan was to leave the coop and window open (I was in the dark just behind the curtains reading my kindle) so that the chickens would...

Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Mine started about two weeks ago. I have about 20 hens of various ages, the youngest being the three wheatens that I kept. Wouldn't you know it? Our very first predator attack and of all birds it took one of my little wheaten gals. Found feathers in the coop, and the bird dragged to beside the...

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Nevermind! Found her a home. If the original owner comes across this and wants her back, I'm sure the guy who's taking her will be helpful with that. Contact me if you think she might have been yours..

    American serama thread!

Thanks folks. I found a home for her that can be temporary or permanent if the owner doesn't come through. He's a good guy I've dealt with quite a bit, didn't know he kept these too, but it turns out he does! Send me a message if somebody thinks she might have been theirs and we can get her back.

Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Hey folks, we found a chicken here (Ventura CA) that was tiny- I assumed it was a Serama and posted her in their thread. Somebody there let me know she's an OEGB. Anyway, I'm hoping to get her back to her owner, but if the owner can't be found, I wouldn't mind passing her to someone out here who...

    American serama thread!

OH! Great, thank you guys so much for that. It could be why my ads are getting no response.. I'll correct them and see what happens.

    American serama thread!

Is she even a serama? I have just assumed because she's like the size of a pigeon. (If I'm not walking into a minefield with that question. )

    American serama thread!

Nope, did not find them. Please pass the info along! Also because she's all alone here (sad for a chicken) I'm going to offer her to anyone that can get her. The owner will have priority of course, but I don't want to wait anymore for just them. Chickens need company. If you want her let...

    American serama thread!

Longshot post, but looking for someone who might be missing a serama in the city of Ventura. Found in the Ondulando area. I'm just GUESSING serama, because this bird is so tiny and has a big beautiful tail. Barely the size of a pigeon. Only looking for the original owner at the time- Maybe if...

    Great Blue Heron stalking chickens

I know this is super old, but I have one in my yard almost every day. My birds are alarmed by him, but honestly he doesn't mean any harm. I finally found out what he's doing there- bet it's the same in your yard: Eating gophers. Makes him a very welcome guest in my yard!!

Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

My wheatens started laying about a week ago, and I'm noticing two different color types. One is medium brown with dark speckling (like my Welsummer gal's egg is but smaller still) and the other is really dark, smooth colored with a reddish tinge to it. So really you may get eggs much like...

Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

That's why I picked this breed Beka. I found that there were lots of great chickens that people want eggs and chicks from, but locally people will gouge you on the price of anything even POL unless it's a marans. If it's all the same to me (and it basically is) than I might as well keep...

In my second picture there, you can see that the roo with no cotton fluff has red edging on his tail feathers. Is that worse than cotton fluff at base of tail or better?

Here are mine, nearly grown up. Sold quite a few but still have 3 boys and 3 girls in my mixed flock. Just saw one of them getting mated for the first time, so I think the boys know that the eggs must be coming soon!

OLD BREEDS AZERBAIJAN MARANDI (GARA MARAND)

When I was a soldier I worked alongside 150 Azerbaijan soldiers daily stationed in Iraq. They were great guys who guarded our gates for us, and I always enjoyed talking to them trading bits of language and such. One funny bit of information, when they first arrived at our base, my captain must...

Are clean legged birds the standard out there? Mine are not, because they aren't the standard here, but to be honest I kind of wish they were. I'm just not one to buck the system, lol. If that's what folks expect it's what I'll breed. Still I don't particularly care for poopy or muddy feet feathers.

Only my silkies are laying too! Interesting. They don't lay a lot, but at least we get their tiny eggs.

Got it! Anybody else that is interested and don't need shipping, let me know. I have put up 5 or 6 in the freezer, but the last three all look pretty good to my untrained eye. Would be a shame to process them if somebody out there can use one or two.
