So I posted a few days back about our new chicks, thanks for the reply. The RIR that I thought was acting a little sickly is still doing ok, but he definitely isn’t moving as quickly as the rest. Today I realized that his foot is swollen. He’s barely over a week old and I’ve not really heard...
Hey guys! I’m not really new here but it’s been 6-7 years since we‘ve had chickens. We raised them for 6 years and then an animal got in our coop on vacation and killed all but a couple. We gave the survivors to a friend and we also moved. We’ve just decided to add chicks to the new house...
Ok, so this is another one of her roos. It is just a shot I already had on here, but it is not of the comb. I will tell you that the comb is not red and looks more according to breed standard. This is my daughters favorite roo, I mean she loves this one. It is slightly bigger than even the...
We do have a couple other roos to choose from, crowing roos, but they dont match the girls as well. They have more white in them. If I got a couple pics today, maybe I could get your opinion? The other roos have more white in them....... I will get a pic......

My daughter is showing silkies for the first time this year at the fair. We got these sweeties (plus some) from a breeder here on BYC. My daughter just loves them. We need a set of three for the fair, a roo and two hens. They should be as uniform as possible. This seemed to be our best set...
I would pick up another couple chicks if I could, but our tractor supply has been out for weeks. Maybe craigslist?
Oh and we checked out the other 11 eggs that did not hatch. I really didn't want to but curiosity got to me. Out of the 11, only 1 had developed some. So that makes me feel a...
Thanks for helping me celebrate! Nothing from the other 11. They are still in the incubator, but today is day 24, so I don't have much hope. I might do the float test on them tomorrow to try and help clear up if they even developed. I don't think I am much into breaking them open. There are...
Hey guys, I just wanted to update you all on what happened with our little chick. We woke up Saturday morning to a pipand slight zip (really just looked like a large pip). I could see the baby was still alive. I noticed right off though that the white membrane was detatched from the shell and...
So still no pips or cracking from our one little chirping egg. We have heard faint peeps still a couple times today. It really just makes me want to get in there and get it out. I am worried it will not make it. Please, any more advice?
Julie
Ok, so I just took a better look at the egg in question and there seems to be no crack or pip like I thought. What does it mean that we defintely heard peeping and there isn't even any crack?? I still have only heard the peeping one time this morning......

Yes, they were shipped. None were cracked on arrival and they seemed to be packaged well. Even though they are darker eggs, I feel like I got a good view of nothing in most of the eggs. While dark, they are not super, super dark.
The only temperature swing I can think of was a few nights...
We have 12 black copper maren eggs in our Brinsea incubator. This is our second hatch. Our first hatch went amazingly, with 11 out of 14 shipped eggs hatching (Delewares). I have been pretty disappointed thus far with this batch. I have candled twice and only had a couple I thought were...
The first 2 pictures are of the same bird. It is about 4 1/2months old. It is either a splash or blue silkie. We are pretty sure it is also a rooster. Would that change whether or not it cordinates (color wise) with the hens?
The next two pictures are also the same bird. It is either a...
Well so far our first hatch has gone extremely well. We are using our Brinsea Octagon 20 with auto turner. Temps and humidity have been great throughout. The only bad thing is that I did "lockdown" 2 days early, but I don't think that could mess things up too much and we kept the humidity...
Oh man, than I am way off. Like two full days. Nuts, what should I do? They have been in lock down since day "18" but I guess that was really day "16." I doubt they will have enough water in the resevoir to last two more days plus hatch. but now they are really in lockdown. Nuts...
I bought a dozen Delaware hatching eggs online. The eggs were laid in the morning and shipped that afternoon. That was a Tuesday and I got the eggs Thursday afternoon. I was thinking that today would be day 21, but would it really be tomorrow? The eggs were laid exactly 3 weeks ago today...
We bought some hatching eggs from a gal on ebay a couple weeks ago. They are our first hatch ever. Right now they are in our Brinsea. The temps have been good and the RH is fine also (I think). We have been candling them. We candled them all once at about a week old and two times since then...
