Dr. Todd :
Maybe I am misreading this post but do you mean the duck laid one egg in the nest, then another out of the nest so you took both eggs away? If that's the case you've disrupted the nest and she'll likely try to renest again somewhere else. You need to leave the eggs in the nest...
I got mine from Mallard Lane Farms. Jamie is great to deal with, and my pintails are a pleasure!
You need a 3-186(I think that's what it's called) to keep birds like wood ducks and pintails and most teals, but not to keep Mandarins(again, don't quote me on this, but I think I'm correct).
As...
She has plenty of cover. She made her nest that she sat in for a day right next to the aviary wall and behind some THICK plants and weeds. I tossed one egg because it was completely cracked open, but I have the other two getting ready for incubation now.
How long do pintails usually take to...
Yup, they are first year birds.
I'm happy that they will at least lay next year.
Bummer that she won't lay anymore this year though, I'll keep an eye out just in case and take them away if she does.
Well, this is my first year with my pintails. All is going well, both are active and healthy. I was excited to finally see the female making a nest. I was also happy to see an egg in that nest. What I was not so happy about was that there was another egg, fifteen feet away mind you, sitting...
I have a 2 different breeds of ducks for sale. They are the gold star hybrids and indian runners. The indian runners are blue or lavender with a white bib, with the exception of 3: a male and female black runner, and a chocolate drake. I have females and males of both breeds. These are pick...
What do you guys do for winter? Last year we got 3 feet of snow. I don't want them to get too cold. Right now all they have is a nest box that is on the ground. Oh, and by the way, they are Northen Pintails.
I finally got my birds!
They're not in the aviary yet, just a little a-frame. A 14 year old can't go around spending loads of money and hope to get anything accomplished. I'm hoping it'll be done this weekend.
BTW, they're northern pintails, and A LOT smaller than I thought they would be.
Alright: it's Update time.
Here are some new pics. I didn't get nearly as much as I wanted done, but I knida ran out of screws and a 14 year old can only buy so many things.
Here's some plants that I bought: Pampas. Of course I didn't have enough money to buy anymore , so it's...
I'm planning to get most of it done this weekend, so I should have more pics then. I bought some Pampas and am gonna plant those once I get the pond worked out.
I;m in MD and have some ducks tat lthese little munchkins could live with. I'd be happy to take them! Then when they are older they would go with my flock of 20!
