today is day #21. at day #18 i did the last candling and i have 20 eggs in my bator (brinsea 20 octagon) which all looked great at that stage. 1/2 are silkies from one breeder, and 1/2 are frizzle Xs from another.
i have 5 little silkie babies. one hatched yesterday morning, one last night...
i just got my new chook house. here's a link, mine looks the same as the 2nd one down out of the pics on the left hand side of the page, but is larger - http://www.deluxechickenhouses.com.au/temp001.htm
before i get to my housing/flooring question, i should also explain that i am in melbourne...
...night for them now, for warmth or not? Perhaps I should stop, so they can get used to the idea of being cold at night for when they're outdoors. * I should add that I'm in Australia, and we're heading into Summer here so it's not too cold at night (and I'm not in central Australia where...
that's hilarious! from 0 to 32 chickens in less than two months! don't tell my husband that. on 1 october we had only 2 dogs, now we have 2 dogs, 1 kitten, 2 chicks, 15 eggs in the bator.... he's freaking out that just when the kids are finally getting a little easier (they're 7, 5 and 3)...
recap: last month i did my first ever hatch of 3 eggs (pekin bantam) in a rented r-com 3. 1 hatched, 1 died trying to hatch, and 1 was clear. supplier gave us a 2nd chick, so our 1st chick has a friend. i had just wanted to give my kids (ok and myself!) the experience of hatching chicks...
and how do you do it?
i know i'm a newbie, but why does no one post photos of little baby chick bottoms for others to offer an opinion on their gender?
any advice would be great
ok after my bad hatch (3 eggs, all clear), i thought i should calibrate my brand new r-com 3 incubator being giving it a second run. i realise that the 3 clear eggs, no embryo whatsoever, means the eggs were not fertile to begin with. however calibrating to check the temp is right makes sense...
thanks so much for advice people gave me. turns out all 3 eggs were duds. btw today is day #23.
after taking advice from you guys and a breeder on the phone, i candled all 3 eggs once more. again the air sac was still high, there was a darkish shape but not huge. i pipped a little hole in...
thank you guys. anyone else got some advice for me?
because of the time of day at which i set the incubator, day #23 just started about 1/2 an hour ago. still no sign. should i wait maybe 1/2 day longer, and then maybe pip the eggs a little to see if there's any sign of life?
this is so...
ok i just candled them. more than 1/2 way through day 22. i'm new to this, so i'm not very good at it.
all 3 looked pretty similar. couldn't see any veins. i could see the air thing at the fat end, and i could see a dark shape. i didn't think the shape looked as big as it should be -...
ok i've got a new r-com 3 incubator (auto-turn, auto-temp, auto-humidity, you just set the breed of bird and press start). it's got 3 pekin (cochin) bamtam eggs from a very good local breeder. i am an almost total newbie with no clue what i'm dong.
i candled them at about day 1, and couldn't...
i have a new little 3-egg incubator, an R-com one. eveything is totally automatic. you set the type of bird (chicken, duck, quail or i think one other), and if you set it to chicken, it automatically sets the count down to 21 days, sets the temp at 37 degrees celsius (98.6F), and sets the...
i have 3 eggs in my little incubator. pekin bantam eggs, from a good breeder from whom i picked them up in person (not through post).
this is only my 2nd hatch. last hatch one hatched on day #20, and second egg stared pipping late on day #22, and tried for over 24 hours to get out but didn't...
oh my gosh 1much, our roo has such a gorgeous, warm personality! no wonder you have a soft spot for him - how adorable! loved reading about him.
and i can't remember who posted here about their roo frypan, but i had my drink coming out of my nose i was laughing so hard at the description of...
