Luke, yer killin me over here!
Yeah, I'm thinking she went somewhere else for a vacation and has come back to us now. She settled right in to roost for the night without so much as a ruffled feather or a cluck from anyone else...right smack in the middle of everyone, not off to the side or in a...
...bird, best layer and best chicken all around that I've ever had. She has come out of some crazy situations...escaped a fox, dodged a hawk...and has **thrived** through a bout with cocci and some winter conditions that had everyone else miserable. My other chickens are EEs, White Dorking, Buff...
Anybody...anybody!?
I am trying to ready myself for getting some chicks in a few weeks/months and also looking around for a breeder because I've got a good friend who wants to start a small BY flock and would love Cochins and was possibly looking for some already laying girls...
Thank you...
HAhaaha! YES, my dorking chicks ARE home and they are the cutest little peeps!
I will get pictures up, I have some good color crosses, the awesome farmer men I got my chicks from are very committed to the strength of the breed and have brought in some color crosses (birchen, mottle-y lookin'...
Well and my concern is also with it's behavior. I've never known any fox but a sick fox to be so slow to get lost when a human starts shrieking at it. This was not in any way a sick looking fox, though. This was actually the most beautiful, well fed looking, silkiest, biggest fox I've ever seen...
Thanks for the responses guys I really appreciate it.
We're reallllly not big on killing things...but we're huge on protecting the animals we keep as our food source and responsibility. So, killing the fox is not a huge problem for us. I mean, the way we see it, we're no match for the fox. It...
...runs off when I come out click-clacking around with my gun and yelling at it...but I can see flits and glimpses of it around the edges of my woods. *sigh*
My question for those of you with more experience...
Now that we're majorly on this guys radar...is it "on til the break of dawn" with...
God that is the cutest, smartest thing I've ever seen! Talk about using space well in your yard.
AWESOME coop...plus, a thousand points for thinking creatively. I would be so proud to have made that and have it in my yard. Seriously.
...to make a choice between Ancona and White Dorking chicks...I chose Dorking because I'm into meat birds, but I would love some Ancona at some point. *sigh*
I just think it's hilarious when people say "Anaconda Chickens for sale"...I see it constantly on CL. It automatically makes me think of...
...and if you do have Anacondas....do they eat your other chickens? Just asking before I buy this guys chickens off of Craigslist! He also has Sexlings...in case anyone is interested!
Seriously though, the "sexlings" I get, I didn't always know exactly what sex linked chickens were or how...
I'm no good with chick IDing...but I know this much: Different breeds can grow at alarmingly different rates! As long as everyone seems healthy and happy, my inclination would be to not sweat it!
You have beautiful little chickies...congrats!
And good luck with your breed ID mystery!
...and the behavior of my SLW roo these days has me wishing he would fal into a soup pot, if you catch my drift. he's so pretty though...I just can't do it to him. *sigh* But a nice EE roo for my ladies....gosh that's a nice fantasy.
Yeah, you heard right. I fantasize about roosters....so what!

Thank you! Okay so, like people, chickens can be bigger or smaller or more "strutty" or whatever else just because that's how they are...regardless of sex, etc? Cool.
You know...in thinking about it, I wouldn't even mind if they were Roos, cause, you know, then I would HAVE to get more...
