thanks free range, that was very informative. I certainly would not have the stomach to do that surgery. I'm glad I have an avian vet, I don't mind driving 30 minutes to see him at all. ;). My big concern is what caused it in all of them at once. I would like to avoid this if I can. I've...
They could be pecking each other, I'd check for mites for sure. One of our more experienced chicken owners will certainly have a better idea. Good luck, so sorry for the one you lost.
I had a hen that loved cigarettes, she would fly up on the deck and eat them out of the ashtray. She will walk next to me and jump up and snatch one, lit right out of my hand. :/
I noticed one had a swollen foot, I had a feeling when I saw it what it was but I've never dealt with or seen it before. I took her to my chicken vet when I looked at it and noticed it was also on the other foot and dripping pus. Since she is the one who is always picked on already he was...
It is hotter than the hinges of hell here and the humidity just makes it so much worse. My poor girls are just panting. I have fans blowing, ice in the water periodically thru the day, plenty of shade. I'm not sure what else I can do to make them more comfortable. I have these big sheds they...
I'm in Rockville and I just order the 50lb bag from Countryside. I also get the same size bag of DE from them. They just mail it to me. I keep the feed in a metal trash can, it already has DE in it and that keeps the bugs out. That is the BEST feed/scratch I've ever seen. They love it and...
My SS Rose always has a nasty behind and my others do not at all. She has always laid weird eggs. When it has a shell it is bumpy like sand paper, otherwise they just have a membrane and they seem to fall out of her at night. Some are teenie tiny. They all have constant acess to soluable...
I hear ya! I let my girls free range and every afternoon when I put them back into the chicken part I'd the yard I'm on poop patrol withe pooper scooper so 1. My dog won't eat it...his breath stinks bad enough! And 2. So we aren't stepping in it. I'm too embarrassed to admit how much I've...

I'm so sorry for you and your daughter. I will pray that she will be blessed with beautiful, healthy children and in the meantime that she is somehow able to find some comfort.
I haven't been on one of my favorite boards lately, been a bit preoccupied. I had two surgeries last month and luckily only had to do a lumpectomy. It was small, grade 1 and didn't spread to my lymph nodes. God is so good. I just knew from git go that this was going to be ok, that God was in...
Lola laid her first egg yesterday since she was sooooo sick for a couple weeks there in January. Someone had said that once you give your chicken the antibiotic Bactrim that she will never lay again. I just want everyone to know, this is NOT true! She laid a beautiful egg! Yay Lola you rock...
Yes they even came with the tool and all the strips you need. All I needed to buy was a needle point circle thingy. These are only like 6x6 and 6x8 so I'm not sure what to do with them. I am waiting for the new full pillow kit to come in the mail with the frame to hold it while I work. So...
My girls are healthy and fed a good variety of fruits/veggies, feed, mealworms and whatever they find around the yard during the day. They also get a scoop of wild bird seed since they dont like scratch. They eat everything BUT the corn. Snobs.
Anyway, any advice?
5 hens, suburban...
They look funny around the edges because I folded the fabric under for the pic. Now they look silly...oh well you get the idea anyway. It was very easy and fun to do. I have a pillow kit on the way and expect it any day now. It's addicting...every day I look on my porch for that brown box of...
