I actually massaged it and she vomited up a lot. I naturally turned her upside down, which I read shouldn't be done. What came out smelled like vomit but I never smelled a thing from her beak before this.
The doughy stuff is about 70% gone. I will give her two more treatments of that today...
I just rescued (adopted) three chickens from the SPCA. Apparently they were very sick and had been aggressively treated with antibiotics and sulfates. Two of them are fine, one I noticed had a purple crop last week and looked sick so I brought her into the house. She had watery stool with...
I was asking for help for my rooster a few days back. His droppings didn't seem alarming at the time, but he wasn't eating and he's lost a LOT of weight. He has deteriorated every day, and now he's stumbling a bit because he's so emaciated and weak. I syringe fed him whole milk yogurt and...
it definitely sounds like wry neck to me. I got some great advice/help here and saved my chicken, but here I am, four months out, and still syringe feeding her. She won't eat on her own, I've made her a diaper, and she's living in the house.
I used polyvisol, selenium and vitamin E. I...
Our roo is painfully thin. I noticed he was just kind of quietly sitting in a corner last week and then a few days ago I saw his comb and wattles were bluing. I've placed him beneath a heat lamp but I didn't notice anything other than deep, slow breathing. He has periods where he's not...
I have other roosters, but this bantam rooster and a hen were getting bullied so now they have their own separate area. It's only the rooster and the hen. I've tried leaving him alone in the cage for a period of time but still, he just lays in the corner looking ill. I feel bad because he...
I do believe the liquid got into their lungs. Please don't beat yourself up, you were only trying to help them.
I only add liquid a couple of drops at a time. It's a pain, but I've heard some liquid go down where it should have and it caused some wheezing. The bird recovered, but now I only...
I have a 5.5 year old bantam rooster that just sits in the corner looking ill. It's been going on for a month now. He's lost a lot of weight but I can't figure out what to do for him. His droppings appear normal but he just appears unwell.
What do I do about something like this? There are...

that is an AWESOME resource! Thanks!
No, none of them looked like her "stool" It literally looked like a vein had spilled some blood onto the floor. Nothing else, just blood.
I have not wormed and am going to do this.

although I'm treating for coccidiois, I really don't think that's what it is. The blood was pure, 100% blood, NO stool at all. Justa puddle of blood. She was acting normal when this happened.
my daughter plays with the hens in her tree house. She's almost 12 and is very good with animals, so no suspected injury. She said the hen squatted down to poop and pure blood came out. I ran to see, and yes, it's the size of a loose stool but pure blood. Because my sick chick had some blood...
is there a REASON they're going after her bottom?
I don't know what anyone else will say, but I can't stand to see this behavior. I always end up building an new area for the bullied bird and end up finding it new friends. Not what I suggest, but it's what I can live with. That chicken may...
I'm really surprised but she is cooling down! I gave her some frozen grapes and cooled her down in the tub again. She has remained cooler. This little bird is SUCH a fighter! I can't believe how far she's come. I truly believe she's going to make a complete recovery!
why will she be culled before you even try to treat her? I have been through one week treating a 3 - 4 month old chick Her neck was COMPLETELY floppy like it had been severed inside. I wrote in here, found out about wry neck, and started the vitamins on her. There were small but IMMEDIATE...
stephpaige, thanks so much for that information. I'm not sure that any of those are the issue. She has no diarrhea since I put her back on grower feed, only an occasional one. I just have no idea what's going on. It started out looking like wry neck but then her feet were affected and I...

thanks for your ideas! She pecks SOME but is not able to eat/drink on her own. I do have frozen grapes. I'm going to try that! I just wet her down in the tub again. I've had a fan on her, and I've fed her while holding a sm. ice pack (for kid's hurts) on her back and she started to...
it is not due to outside temps. Last night it was in the low 60s and she was still panting. It's not hot enough to have our air on, I'm comfortable (HATE the heat!) and she's in her cage with a fan on her. She's still panting. She is VERY hot to the touch.
