Rose (Rhode Island Red)
Here is Rose at 3 days old.
She is probably the smallest of the flock, but is always the first one to hop out of the brooder and onto my lap.
Here is Rose at 2 weeks with my youngest child.
And at 2 weeks, in motion, just taking off for a short flight...
Hayden
Singin' on YouTube
Our first chicken was a 'gift' from a co-worker which they named Hayden. They wanted him to have more room to roam instead of their backyard in the city, and they were concerned about the noises he was starting to make affecting their neighbors. The cockrell was...
The Biddies Arrive
In preparation to receive the new little biddies we converted an old dog kennel.
We placed pine shavings in the bottom and covered them with paper towels. We installed the light and monitored the temperature with the light and it hit 96 degrees. It is soooo clean...

The Portable Coop!
I wanted to make a portable Coop that we could move around the property so that the chickens would have fresh ground to live on every few days. I started construction in our small one stall garage out in the shop. We only plan for it to house a maximum of 5-6 standard...
Well my wife found it dead in the nest this past Tuesday afternoon. Not sure what happened or why it was back in the nest, other than the adoptive mom may have laid the egg we found in there too. I've been told not to touch them when they are little, like I do my chicks, and so I didn't. But...
Sounds Great! I can't wait to see what mine looks like. I posted about it.
I see you are close by, I'm out west of Raymond. Won't be home til Sunday and hope it does okay. My mom did mention that it looked brown, but haven't seen it. Since it wasn't born wild I'm not sure what to do with...
I wonder how soon I'll be able to tell what it is Male/Female. I know nothing about Turkeys, but hope that it can be raised like the chicken and that it survives til I return home.
This is a forum I never thought I would make a post in. However a friend at work brought me an egg about 30 days ago and claimed it was a Turkey egg. It looked like one of those images I searched for via google. I just happen to have 2 laying hens, and 1 black australorp was setting on a golf...
Mine are supposed to arrive from IDEAL March 3rd. We setup the brooder over the weekend and are ready for our 2nd batch of biddies. My youngest son's B'day is today, so it will be easy to remember when these were hatched.

As lollipop stated it shouldn't be a problem. We have chickens and the Canadian Geese. Last year the Geese raised 5 of their own they didn't bother each other. They are back and often venture up to where the chickens are and the chickens often head to where they are too in the evenings...

I really like your design and detailed instructions!!! The only thing I don't quite understand ("how it works") is the turner. From the pictures it appears that the box will not turn all the way over and if it did the eggs would fall out. I am obviously missing something here, and...
Had 2 of my neighbors dog about 1/2 mile away come over last week and kill 2 of the chickens while my wife and children attempted to chase them off. I was home yesterday and they were on their way back. My wife was under the impression we couldn't do anything to them, not so of course. So I...
At least you don't live near me, my neighbors about 1/2 mile away have 2 dogs that came over and killed 2 of my chickens while my children and wife attempted to chase them off. Big lab type dogs. I was home when they came back the other day. If I can shoot a person on my property stealing or...
I have a little page that I started last fall after receiving my chicks. It might give you an idea on how to use thumbnail pics so that you can fit more on a page. They easily scale up to full size when clicked. It's a link off my home page here on BYC...
I've had some of the hens that I got around the same time you did Jennifer, be very standoffish and now want to be near and petted, and I've had some the liked being petted when they were younger that now don't want you to touch them at all.
Our rooster, which was a gift last July at 4.5 months...
Thanks for the comments on the tractor seat picture. Maybe she likes it cuz she blends in so well. I don't know but its just odd to me. She gets all fussy if I attempt to put her in the pen with the nest boxes. At least I know where to look each day, and the tractor is right by the back...
Most of mine are using the nest boxes, but one seems to prefer the middle of the yard out in the open, and another insists on laying hers on the seat of my 1976 Ford 2600 tractor seat.
