Welcome New Section: Local Chicken Laws & Ordinances!

Did you just see that SL County has approved backyard chickens and Taylorsville falls into that. I live in Taylorsville and have had chickens for several years now..council knows about me and so does the mayor and even animal control. I've had animal control over when a neighbors dog got into...

    Utah!

Taylorsville started working on making it legal. As of right now the ordinances are so contradicting that they can't enforce anything. They do have a paragraph about family food supply listing chickens as part of it.

I love my leghorns. Both are very friendly to me and not skittish at all. I don't know if I did anything different but I even hold them and one let me catch an egg whole she was laying. My buff polish is skittish.

Waiting in line for the nest box (pix)

I wish mine would wait or double up. Nope, if one is in the next box, they lay on the floor. Doesn't matter there are 3 other perfectly good boxes with "fake eggs"...lol

    Introductions and Pecking Order

Cool idea..a learning page about it, would be fantastic. I introduced 5 new chickens to my already 4 and it took a long while. I kept them separate for a good 6 weeks(They've seen each off an on while the younger one grew) and we still had pecking injuries. Things were going well until last...

My chicken sick but I not much of symptoms

One of my Marans since birth always would fall asleep but otherwise seemed very healthy. She even started laying a few weeks ago. 2 days ago I noticed she was hiding and not running towards me for treats. Last night I saw her in the nest box when I brought out treats and brought some to her and...

When will they lay eggs again after Molting?

2 of my EE's started Molting in August and one of them finally laid an egg again yesterday. So it was 3 months for her and still nothing from my other one.

    About time!!!

I have one leghorn going through a serious HARD molt and she hasn't laid in a few weeks. My buff stopped laying in August. She had a molt for about 2 weeks but she's free loading. My other EE hasn't laid and 2 of my newer gals who have been of age for awhile now have no signs of laying. So I...

    About time!!!

My EE's stopped laying in mid-august when they started molting. I don't have any extra light in the coop and only keep a heat lamp on their water to prevent freezing but they still are in "bed" at dusk. So I assumed between molt and shorten days, I was in for free riders until spring. 3 of my 5...

    Chicken announcing her first egg

I had to come back and announce she finally laid her 1st egg. So I was right in assuming all that nest scratching, purring and butt shaking was her 1st time laying an egg.
