we sold 30 chicks and 2 ducklings to a man who just moved his small young family to the country and he wanted his 2 small kids to have a different life than he and his wife had, complete with chickens and ducks, because the land they bought has a pond, so ducks were a necessity. well, he asked...

    Buff Orfington?

i cant imagion anything that would turn feathers dark, or light for that matter! i doubt that the feather color hd anything to do with the death. Buff Orpingtons dont like it very very hot, we lost 4 last summer from the heat.

Question about hatcheries and breeders that send extra chicks.

Quote: Actually the none commercial rhode island reds are a rare breed and the true buff orpington breed is also maybe not rare to this part of the world but aren't really all that common. And This past time I got a blue cochin hen. Those really aren't that common. All three breeds are on the...

    A Controversy: Breeders vs. Hatcheries

Quote: 75% actually on average. Might have been misleading the way it was wrote. Uusually 50% doa or dying and 50% of the remaining ones over the next few days. Big difference is this is all bantams ( I own no large fowl and never will), they dont ship nearly as well as large fowl chicks...

    A Controversy: Breeders vs. Hatcheries

Quote: Is this kind of hatchery experience common? I ask because although I've only ordered from hatcheries a handful of times, I've never had a DOA or lost a chick. I've never considered myself a lucky person but if I'm beating those odds I think I'll start playing the lottery! oh my gosh...

Quote: oh my gosh, thats not true. geez, i know most hatcheries ive ever worked with dont do that, and they plan their hatches according to the orders, some may operate deceptively, i know mcmurry does, but many many dont. and its not like your getting a crap bird from a hatchery. we have some...
