    My chicken tractor and coop-pictures

I don't have a parts list but the tractor is 6'x12' and we used about 200' of EMT conduit. That includes the wings. If you don't have predators, you could skip the wings. We have seen mink, coyote, bear, and fox on our 40 acres not to mention the area dogs, raccoons, etc. All welds were...

    What are you canning now?

Made several batches of strawberry rhubarb jam when my sister visited last week. She doesn't can so we had fun doing something she doesn't normally do. I sent all but one jar with her to share with other family that live near her so had to make more a few days later. Don't ask me for the...

    Feather pecking

I've had feather pecking too. Try giving them a little more protein and something to keep them from being board. Also, if it is only one bird, check out pinless peepers for her. If the pecking goes on to long, she could teach others to peck too. I had a few peckers and didn't nip it in the...

    What are you canning now?

I can my vegetables in quarts and still have to open two jars for a meal. I feed three men and myself and we are not light eaters. Two quarts of vegetables for a meal is the norm but we usually have a bit leftover for the clean out the frig meal we have about once a week.

    What are you canning now?

Thank you Darklingstorm I have both a smoker and a dehydrator so I will give the smoked dried peppers a try when I do my big harvest in late summer. The zucchini cream sounds yummy. I will do some looking at my local library to see what books they might have. Thanks again.

    What are you canning now?

Darklingstorm, welcome. How do you smoke and dehydrate peppers? That sounds so good. Also, zucchini cream? I don't post much but I love reading about everyone's canning. I have been canning green beans, blackberry jam, relishes, dill pickles (my first try), blueberry jam and pie filling and...

    What are you canning now?

Re: squash polination I use to have problems with polination in my garden, not just squash but with everything. Since my neighbor decided to raise bees my garden is so much more productive. His "girls" are over in my garden all the time. I do my part by not spraying anything on my garden...

    Claussen Kosher Pickle Copycat

Old thread but great recipe. I've used it for a couple of years. Someone asked about making pickled eggs with this. After we finish a jar of pickles, I fill the jar with boiled eggs. They are really good. I am not comfortable leaving the jars out at room temp for three days so I put the...

    Chicken eating feathers...

Those Bumpa Bits that ChicKat linked to above look pretty interesting. They look like they would work better than the pinless peepers if the chicken can indeed eat and function normally otherwise. The reviews of the Bumpa Bits look good. I did have a couple of my hens that could not function...

    Chicken eating feathers...

I have had a similar problem after one of my chickens was injured and some of the other chickens picked her bloody before I discovered the problem. After that, the feather picking began. Eventually they all (12 hens) were doing it. My Isa Browns were the first and worst pickers. I tried the...
