    Emu hatching and incubator help

Oh exciting, I'm glad you at least get one for your efforts! You're very welcome! It is so difficult to not worry with weight fluctuations lol, I think once a week is sufficient though. They are seasonal layers, though I am unsure of exactly when since I got mine in December and still see...

Great Pyrenees - to buy or not to buy?

I haven't read through all of the responses yet but my advice would be to do TONS of research. Pyrenees, Anatolian, Gampr, Akbash, Central Asian Shepherd, Komodor, Maremma, they ALL have the potential to kill poultry and they ALL have the potential to be excellent guardian dogs, the key is in...

    Emu hatching and incubator help

How did they turn out? I know I'm too late but figured I'd respond for future hatches. I would not consider myself "experienced" as I've only hatched out four Emu in a simple styro foam hova bator with no issues but I will relay what I learned. I struggled with maintaining humidity initially...

    What would you spend?

Re read my post, I am saying for an adult experienced LGD, not a puppy. Great point, predator load plays a massive role here. My one LGD's presence is enough to ward off any predators from my flock's area just from his barking. I only contend with aerial predators, fox, racoon, mink, skunk...

    What would you spend?

He is a pretty boy, gets compliments everywhere he goes. His hair is cut short because he's inside and I'm not a fan of wearing dog hair slippers... Of course I couldn't find a normal picture of him, it always comes out as either a blur or he's doing something silly lol Yep, my Anatolian is...

    What would you spend?

A blue heeler is not an LGD, it is a herding dog. I have a red heeler mixed with a great pyrenees and he's the worst of both breeds lol:barnie LGD breeds instinctively guard livestock, have a lesser tendency to try to herd or chase livestock. They live with the livestock and bond with their...

    What would you spend?

I can't either at the moment, when I am ready for another dog it will be considered an investment. My current boy was cheap but he was also not trained whatsoever at 1.5yrs old, no basic manners around people at all so it was like working with a 130lb mouthy, pushy, crazy, bouncy puppy😅...

    What would you spend?

True! That's why it's an option because I knew it would come up😁

    What would you spend?

I would pay 1400 for a puppy if the parent stock were proven guardians and they had excellent hip/elbow testing. I'm primarily interested in what people think a mature trained adult is worth because I never see them, there's a surplus of puppies on the market though.

    What would you spend?

It seems that poultry safe livestock guardian dogs are in high demand yet I never see any trained dogs available. I'm wondering if that's because the cost of a trained LGD is typically more than most want to pay or have the funds to pay for one. Hypothetically these dogs would be health tested...

    Emu Hatch A Long

The next day he had absorbed the yolk but the naval hadn't closed and was still attached to the egg so I cut the umbilical, put on some iodine and put him in incubator isolation til it looked a little better. He's with the others now they're eating, drinking and trying to walk! I'll try to get...

    Emu Hatch A Long

Kind of 😅 Baby #4 wasn't quite ready to come out, I guess it felt left out with everyone else hatched already. I've taped it into the shell until it absorbs the rest of it's yolk sac. It's been crying and throwing a fit but has finally calmed down😅 Maybe by morning it can join the others 😊

    Emu Hatch A Long

I found them on a Facebook group, the scammers are getting increasingly bad though so quick word of caution never send a deposit and always ask for video footage of them and their birds for proof that they’re not scammers. The people I bought from are in Kentucky about three hours away from me...

Yeah I’m really shocked! I would have been content If just two hatched! I only bought four, I’m glad I didn’t get more than that 😂

    Emu Hatch A Long

Emu #3 hatched around 3:30 this afternoon, it's the most rambunctious one yet constantly whistling for someone to cuddle it! It's navel isn't closed so I'm monitoring that, trying to keep it clean. Still waiting on #4, it's rocking and whistling through the shell but still no sign of breaking...
