Depends on if you want quality or just egg layers.
Most of what you see are RIR production reds, if you want a quality bird that lays and very pretty to the eye your looking for a Heritage Rhode Island Red
I have herd and read great things about Mr. Horsemans line and plan to contact him in the morning to try and order some HRIR's.
Took me a bit to raise the $ but I'm sure there worth every cent.
:yesss:
I'd be doing good to find them at a feed store, growing up every body and there brother had them now I can't find them other than a hatchery and you have to buy more than I need.
I or we have the time and patients meaning my wife and I, I'm not the 9 to 5 type so I work in the oilfield and my wife is a lot of help as long as she gets to spoil the chicks.
All in all it's just for fun and really just a project.

Yes sir it helps a lot.
I'm not real chicken wise and appreciate all and any advice.
I just want a quality red and want to be able to provide the same to folks who show interest around here.
I purchased the birds I have from Mr. McMillian near by and am greatful to him but no one else has...
I'm trying to dabble in breeding without having to buy a bunch of birds from one breeder.
I love to see every strain but some more than others if that makes sense.
