Probably not the answer, but certainly worth the time invested. LOOK AROUND! THOROUGHLY! I have Six pullets. All were laying daily. About 2 weeks ago, things changed. Some days I got 4 eggs, some days 6. Being a novice, and taking to heart what I read here on byc, I chalked it up to Shorter...
Yeah. I have to contact my County Extension agent by early winter anyway. Two pear trees. Both need desperate pruning to get them under control. And I don't know what I'm doing on pruning. Ask the expert. The other tree had what I think is Hawthorn Cedar fungus. International Orange pustules...
22 hours and counting. Its holding slight peaks before settling. I might win this one yet. When I think of the hundreds of pounds of pears this tree offered me this year.....wasted!
And before next fall I will have a strainer. Thanks @MarilynHukill
So, heres 3 pics of a small one I found.
Since 2:00pm yesterday
7:30 am now. Still only reduced to thick applesauce stage. Just put some in fridge to seeif it thickens with cooling. If not....in a pot on stovetop.
SEE! THAT'S WHY I COME TO BYC! I even learn things l didn't know I didn't know.
I have seen pics of those "aprons". Never really thought about them. Assumed maybe they were like the "tramp stamps" that so many women have now. Something to catch the eye of the .
Not round like Asian pears. Definite pear shaped, but no clear shoulder definition. Just goes from fat on the bottom to kinda fat on top (kinda like me). No picture. Thought I took one, but its not there. I think I may have a couple of bad ones left on the tree that I can at least get a...
COULDN'T WAIT! Just had a spoonful. (Couple, actually). Heaven
Wish I hadn't added that 1 cup of sugar! Still a little grainy, like pears are. But I'll give it overnight and see what happens. But its GOOD.
Oh. Yeah. I knew about citric acid and fruit Browning. But I am accustomed to apple butter being dark brown. And I don't think I have ever seen pear butter before....so brown works for me there, too.
Been cooking (low in crock pot, no cover) for 6 hours now. Still the consistency of apple...
Preservative? There's only a couple quarts here. If it tastes as good as I think it will, and knowing me like I do, that's out of here by Thanksgiving anyway.:gig
I never made pear butter. Or anything similar. I have a huge (40+ft) Pear Tree in my front yard. No idea what kind of pears. Big. Two hands full. Not round, but no real neck to speak of. Brown with lots of darker brown splotches. In mid September, still so hard that it could scratch diamonds. I...
Welcome to BYC. I wholehearted agree with Lizz733, about the mealworms especially. I can hardly open my storage locker in the run because thats where I keep the mealworms. The chicks are on top of the box, on top of my arms, ON TOP OF ME!
Do you like pickled eggs? Maybe an acquired taste (which...
Maybe true. Always before, I just tossed scraps on the ground. And there was a frenzy. I have one or two damaged pears still in my tree. They really love those. Maybe I'll try hanging one of those tomorrow and see what kind of reaction it gets.
