I received 12 of these little guys as extras in my online order. Does anyone know what breed they are? They have feathers on their feet if that helps....
This is my blue orpington rooster. I have noticed as he has got older his feathers across his back have taken on a yellowish, reddish tinge...Is this normal? And if I breed him with a black orpington hen what are the chances the chicks will have the same?
I have a hen that had been laying good for the past month. The past 3 days, she gets on the nest like she is going to lay and sits for about an hour or so, but doesn't lay anything. She seems fine, she's eating, drinking, etc....Is it possible she is trying to be broody?
I have a blue orpington rooster and some of the feathers going across his back look to be tinged with a reddish, yellowish hue...Is this normal and if not is there any way his offspring won't have this?
I have been feeding my chickens laying mash wet. I was wondering what is the best feeder for this to keep them from wasting so much feed? They scratch it out on the floor of the coop and half of it goes wasted.
I have a couple chickens that had been sneezing. I "assumed" it was something respiratory so I treated them with Tylan50. One of them has recovered but the other is still doing the whole sneezing thing. Do I need to treat her again?
I am on my fourth batch of eggs in my incubator. My first round went great, 11 out of 16 hatched. Well, batch 2,3, AND 4 have been awful! Not one chick has hatched from either one....I have kept my humidity and temp. same as I did with the first ones....what is going on?? I'm so disappointed and...
I have 12 eggs in the incubator and they were due to hatch Friday...only 2 of them are "rocking" and have been for days. Since they are 2 days late should I assist in their hatch???
I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice on incubation during the winter months. I did my first hatch in August and had great success. I ran 2 more hatches but the weather where I am is really cold now and hatch rate on my second one was ZERO! Third incubation right now...only 2...
I have a total of about 20 chickens that are at laying age and were doing fine. I had a hen go broody and is sitting on the nest now. I have left her alone due to advice to do so. But since, my egg production has decreased big time. I was getting 12 eggs a day, then dropped to 10, then 9, 8, 7...
I just read where if you are breeding lavender orpington's you need to breed black into them every other year. So does that mean if you breed a lavender hen with a lavender rooster, then you should breed their offspring with a black orpington?
OK, here goes a long story...two days ago I had a hen go broody. So, I decided to just let her sit on the eggs since this would be my first time witnessing a broody hen and eggs hatching with a hen instead of an incubator. Well this morning I went to feed and she came down to eat. Well, then she...
I was wondering if there is any distinct way to tell if a hen is a black orpington. I have one, and I also have black australorps. I can't tell any differences in the two. Is there anything I can look at on them to distinguish the two?
