Hello
I have had chickens for several years. We have a large coop and run area that they stay in. Due to predators and neighbors.. they cannot wander the yard.
I really want to construct something that will allow me to move it around our property on a daily basis.. that they could also...
I live in Upstate NY.. we don't see many, if any, days below 0.. this past winter we hardly went below 32..but that is rare.. Temps usually range in the 20s to 30s with nights in the teens.. We may get some nights below 0..
How would a Dutch Bantam rooster fare? I have a 8x10 Amish shed coop...
I recently obtained 2 "heavy" birds.. a Buff O and a Brahma. My other hens are Rhode Island Reds.
I noticed pretty quickly that one of the new hens ( I assume it's her because this wasn't an issue before)..is laying an egg that gets crushed before I can collect it.
I have been using old milk...
Hello
Two unrelated questions except they both deal with Silkie chickens.
1. I have a Blue Silkie rooster that I got earlier this fall.. around Sept or so. I've had plenty of Roosters and they've all crowed..This guy came to me with his girlfriend. I saw their former home, lovely lovely place...
I had my broody Silkie hatch out a batch of silkie chicks. This is her second brood. I didn't loose a single chick from that first brood..This time 4 hatched out, 1 didn't make it out of the egg..
I let her roam around the coop and run like last time.. but I found 1 of the chicks smooshed flat...
Still nothing.. They have been in the incubator since yesterday as she decided to leave the nest with the 3 chicks she has.. How many more days do I give them?

Lovely Partridge Silkie Rooster. Not aggressive but also not a pick up and pet bird, he is a bit wary of humans. Crowing. In excellent health. Lovely coloring and nice comb. Not too fluffy
I have some eggs under my broody. I am pretty sure last night some started to hatch.. there were no babies yesterday but i heard peeping. This am, I had 1 chick and 3 pipping.. later this am I had 2 more chicks and one that had died hatching.. still in the egg (it was def dead). As of tonight, 3...
This is happening to me too! My 1 1/2 year old RIR hen was laying HUGE dark brown shell'd eggs and they have gotten very pale.. nearly cream with thinner shells..
I wonder if it is the feed? She is on grower's pellets as we have a mixed aged flock and I was told that feeding layer's pellets...
It's blue seal...which is what our agway carries.. in crumble, and then growers or layers pellets
I don't have the bag.. it's in a bin.. I'll see if their website says when to switch. Mostly I was just concerned that they be able to eat the pellets (ie could break them to eat them)
My last...
I have a batch of 7 chicks that are around 5-6 weeks old and fully feathered. How long do I need to keep them on chick crumble before they can eat grower's pellets with the rest of the girls?
I'm nearly out of chick feed..I really don't want to buy another 50lbs..but I don't want them to...
as long as it isn't mites or something that will harm the chickens... they are meal work looking..when I google mealworms.. they do look like them.. but darker..
No, it's not a slug.. it's more caterpillar.. I looked closely at a dead one tonight.. My son spilled some wild bird seed in the coop (long story) and perhaps they were in the seed and now are in the coop?
Do I need to get some DE?
I wish I had a photo.. but I don't.. so I'll try and describe it and see if anyone here can tell what it is.
Under 1 nest box in my coop, I have these little black caterpillar type things. They are maybe 1/4 in long..and sort of flat. The box is a solid wood design so that the chicken, nest...
