My latest group. I had ordered 25 from Ideal a couple months ago. 2 were unthrifty, a snake got 7, and one died in a freak incident ( and she was my favorite :hit). So of the remaining 15, I have 8 boys and so far they are almost all ones that I would love to keep: fawn silver, golden neck...
Sebrights would be easy to tell and eliminate. The only one that can be hard for some people would be Japanese and I rarely see those in assorted bantam bins. Stick to clean legs, no puffy cheeks, and no sebright patterns.
In the chipmunk pattern chicks, look for dark eyeliner and distinct...
The picture of the Campine ones doesn't do them justice. Their markings are very crisp with beautiful contrast between the white and black. They are a variety created by Ideal Poultry. I knew I wanted a black and white barred variety and was going back and forth between barred and cuckoo and...
I have two girls, hatched in February, that are raising two olive egger chicks together. They are three weeks old so they went broody someone around 6 months old. Actually, I have another from my March chicks that has a two week old chick she's raising. I think I have broodiness hormones in my...
How old are they? I really can't tell how big they are, since that would help determine if they are a bantam breed or large fowl. They do look like OEGB, but then again there are several breeds that look like that as chicks.
I'm listing some birds for sale and I have a cockerel that I don't know if he is wheaten or BBR and pics aren't helping much. Any tips? I don't want to sell him as the wrong thing. I could just list him as "could be wheaten or BBR" but if there's an easy way to tell that would be helpful...
He is my baby and my favorite. He used to love to cuddle with me when he was a baby. During the winter he would flap his wings and run up me (since he couldn't fly yet) so he could snuggle inside my coat when it was cold out.
Now he is too busy being head of the flock (he keeps everyone in...
I have such an assortment of colors, that's for sure. I had even more but sold a bunch a few weeks ago even thought they were uncommon (splash tail buff, silver blue, etc) just because I was running out of room (yet I ordered more chicks lol) I have a lot more of non-OEGB types, as well. I was...
I was fiddling with my camera today and yesterday so here are some pics :) A few of them are either dutch or OEGBs with a defect. All but the Mille Fleur and BBR hens are from Ideal Poultry so either of those scenarios is possible.
It doesn't come across as Japanese to me. What are the types of bantams they carry (if you know)? I looked again at the new pics of the colors coming in and it reminded me of how my wheaten EE bantams looked.
In the one pic it looks like the legs have a green cast. Is that accurate?
@TattooedChicks Does it have the upright tail, wings aimed down and shorter legs? I can usually confirm a Japanese chick by only a couple weeks old based on those things. The face does look a bit Japanese but it's hard to say for sure. Where did that chick come from?
Also, what camera do you use?
I only ended up with the one Crele female from the batch I ordered from Cackle this year, and she didn't have quite the look I wanted, so I sold her and I'm thinking of ordering hatching eggs.
