I have a guniea growing up with some chicks and was wondering if he could be fed chick grower with the chicks so that I don't have to divide up their food. They are just coming off chick starter now.
At first we had them in a large rubber tub with straw and a heat lamp. We realized that the heatlamp was warming the rubber and making it bubble in one spot, where we believe the chicks kept running across and which gave some of them splayed legs.
I got 6 guniea chicks about three weeks ago and at first they all seemed fine. But the morning after we got them one had died. It didnt get under the heat. So we made them a more condensed area that was warmer. But after two weeks, we noticed one looked significantly smaller so we brought it...
I just bought some two-day old chicks. They are barnyard mixes, but I was wondering if someone could tell me loosely what breed they are.
Chick #1
This one has feathered legs, and is also a bit more cinnamon coloured than the picture shows.
Chick #2
This one has featheres legs, and has...
We just hatched 5 chicks using a broody hen. They are now in a brooder in the garage. Because the mother hen is there, do we need to use a red heat lamp? Keep in mind that it is dropping below freezing temperatures at night.
I just had a chick hatch from a broody hen, and it's the only egg that was fertilized. I would like to move them out of the coop away from the 2 roosters, into a brooder, but don't know exactly when I should move them. I dont really want them in the coop below freezing temperatures (it's still...
So turns out the eggs from my previous post were ringneck pheasant eggs. We separated the pheasants from the chickens, and now the pheasant hen has a little nest with 3 eggs. I know pheasant egg clutches are usually 12 eggs. I am hoping she will sit on them except, they are all freezing and...
I dont know if this makes a difference, but he is melanistic mutant ringneck
Are black necked the same as melanistic mutants? Because the rooster is a melanistic mutant (partially at least).
I just found an egg in my coop yard. I have ring neck pheasants mixed in with chickens, some of which are blue/green egg layers. The chickens are not young, so they are laying full sized eggs. I read that pheasant eggs can have bluish or olive tones. I'm trying to decipher if this is a chicken...
Last night I noticed my young silkie rooster making a raspy noise every time he exhales. At first I thought it was his crow coming in, but now he makes the noise almost every time he breaths. We checked his crop and there didn't seem to be a blockage there. He seems to be moving around and...
The harsh winter is quickly approaching my farm, and I have 2 pheasants I need to get ready for the winter. And I have a few questions:
1. Do I change their feed for the winter, or will turkey starter and chicken scratch (just a grain/corn mix) be enough?
2. Will a man made shelter be enough...
