Thank you, yes it was a clearance pre fab. It was missing a box of parts so I got it for $12. Turned out to be missing the pin side of the unit. So we just cut the legs off and sat it on the ground of the run. My children and me had fun painting it.
I knew all this about the first few days after hatching. And they were a blue green bill just after hatching. So I figured male. Then I tried vent sexing. Never looked like they were male that way so I was hopeful that they were female and the bill color was just wrong. But now the bill is...
I'm really not sure on the sex of them. I keep going back and forth. The black dot on there bill made me think male. But then read that it can disappear. Welsh's color verys so greatly it's hard to tell. They are almost 4 weeks old now. And are out in the fully enclosed nursery pen right now...
Gonna be moving into the kiddy pool brooder tonight because this ones getting to small, they need more room to move around. The short trip out side for a short swim isn't enough exercise.
Growing like weeds, they are starting to get some black feathers on there sides. So I'm thinking two males, which is kinda sad lol I was hoping for at least one female. Might have to do a swap with a friend.
How long will it take to fall off? No just 2, there was 3 but one dint absorbs the yolk and died in the shell. I'm happy that at least 2 made it so they have each other.
I woke up to the duckling out of the shell, I pulled him out to see how his belly looked. And his yolk sack has some left that has shriveled up like a rasin. I watched a video on YouTube where a man left a chicks yolk sac like this for a week then trimmed it off. Is this what I'm going to need...
So I went and checked on the eggs and the one with the smaller hole had died, it was not very actively yawning and chewing and peeping like the other one. I pulled it out after I realized it was stiff and had died. The yolk sac was still pretty big. Was it to tired after trying to pip upside...
I dont feel I did panic. After not getting advice, I researched. Felt I had informed myself and had my answer on what to do next. I feel like I made the right choice. It was either hope it turns out. Or make sure it works out, in my opinion......
Ok, thanks for the info. But no turning back now. I just did what I did following the post i posted because no one answered my thread in the inconbation thread. I followed my instincts, which I admit can be completely wrong since my first batch. If I helped to early wouldn't they turn...
Yes! I'm just keeping an eye on them. Making sure the membrane doesn't dry out. I'm thinking I'm gonna give them some of the poultry vitamins in there water when they finally hatch. Just because its taken them this long. Probably exhausted poor guys.
After that one started hatching and the other two were not doing nothing, I decided to take a closer look. The bruising was very apparent on the back side.
