This year I am getting 10 bantams of different breeds. Find out when we get them. Might even be a rooster or two among them so it will be an interesting summer. Have to make my coop and run a little bigger as they are too small for this number of chickens. Busy but fun.
We have 7 chickens that are now 2 years old. My number of eggs each day has dropped from 3-4 to 1 egg per day. Any ideas why? They seem to be happy, well fed, lots of water, clean coop!
How long can the light be left on in the coop? Right now it is on for about 16 hours a day. Partially because it is in a dark area and to give a little heat. Next couple of days it will be about -30.
We have been getting 8 eggs from our 8 chickens almost every day. Including 1 giant with double yolks in it. Then yesterday only 5. Some of our friends love it as we sell them the eggs for only $2 a dozen. The more I look at my setup for the chickens I may have to make it bigger next year...
We have 10 chickens and the inside of the coop is about 28 square feet. I'm thinking I might have to give a couple away because it is too smal? I :/will cover the run with plastic to keep from filling up with snow but the many days it is -30 they will be spending all the time in the coop.
Tonite they are going in to the coop. Might be a dumb question but should I also move some of the straw from the brooder to the coop as well? I'm going to be using the Deep Litter Method,
I am insulating the coop and now that I have started that it's finally looking like something. Chicks are 3.5 weeks old but they need a larger area. I'ma going to put them in the coop as soon as I am done! was going to add a picture but can't figure how.
Been working on my coop yesterday, temperature was 20 Celsius. Today it's raining and tomorrow we are supposed to get SNOW!
Here's my nesting boxes - in white- at the end that are now covered with a tarp to stay dry. My little runt seems to be ok. I tried giving them yogourt but all they did...
First timer for chicks, we are finally getting them in another week. How deep should the wood chips be in their 'box' they will be going in? I have a bigger one for when they are 2-3 weeks old with about 4" in it but I'm not sure how much I should have in the first smaller box?
Went to order our new chicks today, Wyandottes, and they were ALL SOLD OUT!! Pretty disappointed as this was a month ahead of delivery time. Since this is our first venture in to raising chicks I emailed the hatchery for their opinion on what would be the best for us. They have a limited...
