Anyone have any? What do I need to know when looking for SQ stock? (aside from what is listed on the breed reference) I looked for the thread and didn't see one, so if there is one that would be great too. Thanks
The kids name some of ours,
Fluffy Butt: Cochin pullet
Pupeye: Jap bantam hen
Owl: a wierd mix
Godzilla: a modern game roo
Mystery Guy: a mix roo
Chicky Poo: a mix pullet
Thats all I can think of for now
I wouldn't raise the girls any other way. They had a blast. When I spoke with my mom after fair I said, "I think I'd like to be a kid again so I can do 4h again"
The girls had a very good fair this year. We got 3rd in Horse showmanship, purple and blue in bucket calf project, and have many items going to state fair. BUT the poultry was the highlight. This is our 3rd year in poultry. The first year we had no clue what we were doing, showmanship or...
Thats about the gist of it. I am looking for some decent cochins, black, white or blue to go with my reserve grand pullet and some jap bantams to go with my top purple hen. Shipping is likely a must unless you live in NE Nebraska, IA, or SD nearby. Thanks
A garden sprayer with a 10% bleach mix works well. I thought I'd heard that within normally 24-48 hours the infection bugs die without a host. Surely someone who knows more will chime in. Very sorry for your loss, I know its hard.
I have one of my RC rir chicks with wry neck I think. I put him in a nice warm box by himself and he is voraciously going after the water. He will drink and drink and drink some more, then he basically throws up and goes at it again. Anyone heard of that? Should I limit his water or leave...
Thanks guys. I lost one overnight. The other is doing great though. I am getting funny looks from hubby as I sit with my pestal grinding already ground chick feed. I raised the lamp a bit as per the link. I lost a healthy chick last night in the "well" brooder. That concerns me too, but I...
I have cleaned their poor little bums. I checked for mites/lice and didn't see anything. What can I do about the pasty butt? Ideas why these two are so much smaller than their same age same breed counter part? They are 2 weeks old. On a pleasant note, I have bantam white rocks hatching as...
I have 2 of 11 chicks that are just not doing well. At first I just thought they were smaller than the RIR chicks and a bit less active, but now I have decided that's not it. I have 3 hamburg chicks, now its quite obvious that the 2 in question are smaller, weak, and quite lethargic. I have...
My 4 yr old laughs everytime she sees an opossum. She says, "I know your not sleeping, and I know pitchforks kill you!" in this evil 4 yr old voice. The first time we were at the feed store since the "incident" some older gentleman asked her if she knew what "this" (a pitchfork) was used for...
I just (as in I am just now coming inside) had a coyote go after my corgi. We went out armed with a bucket (me) and a shot gun (hubby) and the lab. Yote ran off, he didn't want to play. I don't worry about the chickens so much as they have a concrete foundation, so no digging. They'd have to...

that chick is huge!
Definately a big chick, but she's not as big as the pic makes her look. She's not even as big as the palm of my hand. Its all effects. But yeah, when I go and look at the pic, it looks like a HUGE chick!!!

I certainly will! Should be 75% silver phoenix and the rest (and oldest eggs) will be bantie white rocks. After this set we start hatching out for the layers. That's always fun. We have such a wide array of birds in there you never know what you'll hatch.
We have been using an old "see through hen" 60's incubator. It works fine, we have a decent hatch rate (between 80-90) but we want to be able to set more and this only sets 20 if your using smaller eggs. We want to find something cheaper, like under $100. Any recommendations or definately...
Our first (and only so far) chick. We call it Fuzzy Butt for now. Now the girls are obsessed with them since they've seen more adult pics. I'm sure before too long we'll have a small flock of LF cochins. My girls keep telling anyone who will listen about the "fuzzy butt" chickens. They get...
