That's sort of what I figured. Seeing that the box arrived with yolk all over it, clearly the surviving eggs have been through the ringer as well. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!!
Hi everyone! Just checking in~ Like most of us, I'm going CRAZY with schedules this time of year. I still have a bator full of eggs and this hatch has been great as far as temps and humidity go. Following all of your tips has clearly been a BIG help. I haven't seen much development on candles...
Finally installed lights in my coops over the weekend and today I was rewarded with four eggs this morning! Yay!! My girls have only layed one egg since the cold hit 2 months ago!
@Heidisgran congrats on the new chick!! YAY!!!
Me too! I keep saying I am going to wait until day 10 (Wednesday) but I will probably give in on day 7 (Sunday) lol. Too anxious to see how many babies are developing!
Talked to the silkie breeder I mentioned the other day. Going to out to check out and hopefully pick up 3 white silkie chicks tomorrow. She purchased her parent stock from BYC, so hopefully some good baby silkies are in my future! Also hope to buy a dozen white silkie eggs when this hatch is...
Going well! IT's been so uneventful so far that I"ve had very little to to share! It will be 7 days on Sunday, but I'm thinking I will wait until day 10 to candle since they were shipped and because I had so much better luck candling when I waited until later didn't over-analyze. Can't wait to...
Thank goodness for your thoughtful mail lady! We are awaiting the last weather maker from this winter storm. We are expecting 2-6 inches tonight, then finally in the clear! Just might be enough to get the girls and I a day off tomorrow, tho!
Same thing at my house! Little ones running around stinking the place up because it's been so cold! Only my little Domi gets to be out of the cage a whole lot, but still...lol
I'm so excited! Where I live, I haven't had the BEST luck finding much in the way of good pure bread chickens. Today I found a silkie breeder! Also, she even has chicks close to my little one's age!! Guess who m,ay be getting a few friends! She also sells a dozen hatching eggs in Spring for...
My advice (relatively new as well...) if you're not SURE the eggs are not developing, give them a little bit longer before you toss. I ALMOST tossed chicks that later fully developed at the stage you're at. Good luck!!
The very best part of this thread is being able to talk and ask questions freely without fear of being attacked. I have had SO much help here, sometimes about hatching, sometimes other chicken issues or just checking on my sick kid! I love the usual friendly vibe of this thread!
Don't leave...
I believe it's called partridge coloring? Roo is a bantam cochin frizzle and hen is a smooth bantam cochin. I put a pic of mine here so you can tell me if I'm wrong. lol
I'm still hopeful! I did a quick candle this evening and from what I can see this early, they look good. Letting them set this evening and in the morning I will be putting them in the bator! I ended up having a couple eggs from my frizzles that I am going to set with them, so it will be fine...
So Sorry!
I have good news and bad news. My eggs arrived today! YAY!! Bad news...there was yolk all over the squished box when they got here.
Why can post people not READ that it said FRAGILE HATCHING EGGS on EVERY side of the blooming box! GEEZ PEOPLE! They were packed so well, too! The...
I will let you know for sure! My baby has strep throat. Poor thing doesn't feel well at all between the fever and sore throat. She hasn't eaten all day. Hoping the medicine she started today has her feeling better by tomorrow. Thanks for asking.
I hope so, too! The storm is just arriving here, still rain at this point but changing over tonight. We have flooding at this point, but luckily I am far enough from the water that I'm not affected much. But if we get the snow/sleet/freezing rain they are calling for I won't be leaving the house...
So I found the greatest thing EVER. Now I know why things I read said go with the LAMP dimmer switch! You just plug your light into it and plug it into the wall and you have a dimmer. MUCH easier than wiring one! And it was only like $12 at the hardware store. Not too bad. Also picked up another...
