November/December "Hatch-a-Long"

well my Marans eggs arrived today...the mail lady brought them to me she was so worried all weekend about them but couldn't deliver them Saturday because of our Montana weather we're having here in N. Texas...but she wanted me to know that they were in the truck inside the mail warehouse bldg....so I'm hoping they didn't freeze solid!! it got above freezing today woo hoo....34 degrees

Thank goodness for your thoughtful mail lady! We are awaiting the last weather maker from this winter storm. We are expecting 2-6 inches tonight, then finally in the clear!

Just might be enough to get the girls and I a day off tomorrow, tho!

A friend of mine bought an incubator and she is doing her first hatch with eggs from each of my laying hen. Today is day 7 and all are developing. Woo hoo! I tried a few 6 weeks ago but my roosters weren't old enough yet. So now I know that they are. It's so exciting to see the first babies from my chickens. And I don't have to raise them. I can't wait to see what they look like. Hatch day 23Dec.

Adria, one of the Silkies, is trying to set, so I let her have a couple eggs that were laid yesterday. We'll see if she sticks to it...

And I have two pips this morning.

We moved back in to our old house here a few months back and never got a thermometer outside again, so I don't really know what it is right now. But it's been in the single digits to the teens in the mornings here recently. It's supposed to warm up a little bit this week though.

how is the incubating going??

Going well! IT's been so uneventful so far that I"ve had very little to to share! It will be 7 days on Sunday, but I'm thinking I will wait until day 10 to candle since they were shipped and because I had so much better luck candling when I waited until later didn't over-analyze. Can't wait to see what's going on in there!!
