She doesn’t have any discharge from her beak or nostrils. She hasn’t laid regularly for years and only started laying again probably 4 months ago but when we rehomed 4 girls about 5 or 6 weeks ago she quit again. I looked for parasites but don’t see anything. My husband checked on her earlier...
Our oldest hen, Rose, has been lethargic for about 3 days or so. I noticed yesterday she was not eating their pellets and she's not eating in the yard either. Her comb is still red but not as bright as it was and it is lolling to one side. Her poop is like water but I see no sign of worms...
That’s what I’m thinking but I don’t know if my husband will go that far. If I plant the seed in his head and he grumbles about it first then eventually he might come around after he’s thought it over a while. That’s how got the chickens in the first place. 😉
We have one silkie and one Polish. The rest of our flock consists of buff orpington’s, SLW, GLW, Easter Egger’s, and one old Barred Rock to total 13 hens. No roosters. All are roughly 9 months old. Let me start with our Silkie issue. She has gone broody for the second time of her life. My...
Surprisingly she’s not broody now and has started going out with the flock all day and roosting with them at night. However she hasn’t laid any eggs for about 3 or 4 weeks. Hopefully she’ll start up again now that she’s back to normal behavior .
I too have a silkie that is going on two weeks of laying on the floor of the coop. She was laying eggs but hasn’t laid any for 2 weeks now yet she rarely gets up unless we pick her up and make her go out with the rest of her flock. We always gather eggs every day so there are none under her. We...
I’ve been thinking about a camera as well so I can see who’s laying what eggs but we don’t have worthy internet. A coworker mentioned maybe a trail camera?? I haven’t really investigated that option yet.
Wow! How does she manage to move them without breaking them?
Zsa Zsa also has now gone broody. She won’t go out with the rest of the flock to graze unless my husband picks her up and carries her out there. At least now she doesn’t run from us! When I went out there yesterday to clean the...
The flock I had previously free ranged on the chain linked 1/2 acre that is our backyard and never lost a one to any predators. But they were all heavier breeds and the flock we have now is a mixture and has about six birds that can fly way too well. We are afraid they would just jump up and...
