I did spin enough yarn from it for one project and it is getting older so I am going to try it in the compost. Yes, it is only the the fleece not the hide.
I had an old fleece I had not spun and I tried using some of it for bedding during the really cold weather. Now it is all mixed in with straw....do you think it would compost? Of course, there is lanolin in it. What do you all think?
Also, I wondered if any of you have collected grounds from...
Yes I had it covered at first and then I had the bright idea of letting the chicks scratch it up...lol. if the weather channel can be believed by next week I can cover it again. I think I need a frame around it to keep them from scattering it. I could cover it until there is more acccumulated...
Did you have chickens when the bears came to your compost? I am wondering as I am in bear country and wanted to keep bees. But I know that would draw the bears in. I just wondered how bad the bears might be with chickens. I have had chickens since September with no predator issues.......just...
Is the wire hard on the bunnies? I think that is what I had years ago.......but the hutch was left open and the bunnies went in and out as they pleased.
I had worms a few years ago.....worked pretty well for a while. Now it is mostly the two of us here and the scraps are spread pretty thin with the chickens and the two composts. Well, only the compost tumbler right now.....won't be seeing the compost that is on the ground until the snow...
lol, thats so not nice to talk about your warm weather......we have another 3 or 4 inches today and they call for in the 40's tomorrow....wow that would be nice but i'm not holding my breath.
-2°F here this morning and feels like? I don't know but really cold. This is the first time I thought my fingers were gonna freeze before I was finished feeding the chickens. I can only dream of compost at this point. Stay warm.
Spring will be here soon......I keep telling myself....and I know it is so much worse for some...we only got about 6" of snow. And the chickens are troopers.
Brrr..... I am taking care of my chicks and ignoring the compost....I guess I'm a wimp. Its 5°F now and supposed to be -10 tonite. I'm sure both batches are frozen. Sigh
If you really wanted to use your compost inside I have heard of baking soil to kill beasties.......but wouldn't that kill good things, too? Hmmm.....wonder what they do to commercial compost and humus. Well, I may not want to know.
I tried composting a few years ago and I did once have some fish....don't remember what it was....but it was small whole fish with bones. Probaably a couple of pounds. I put them in a small heap of compost in the heat of summer. In a couple days I turned it and could not find any sign of the...
I may give it a try....thnx. my F-I-L shreds his or at least still did a coulpe years ago......I got some once and it was nice. Ill check with him too.
I have an unending supply of leaves and a lot of pine shavings.......I add chicken doo and kitchen scraps. The leaves are best if you can shred them but I don't have a way to do that.
Off topic ...but I tried making a nice dust spa for the ladies but they move around to different spots and seem to like plain dirt over the sand, DE, PDZ and ashes that I have used. So I gave up, lol. They can choose for themselves.
I think DE is used for some pool filters....
I guess I would just try not to use too much PDZ for the compost. I didn't know it was in detergent. I may have added a bit of DE in the coop also....cannot remember. But the small amount I used should not hurt if I don't add it again. Thnx
