Hi all,
I was just wondering how common it is for geese to have a second mating season in the fall? My Chinese started the mating process again a couple of weeks ago. They are adults, and had a rather long season this Spring (through the end of June). I've tried to look it up online, but...
Think I might be interested in Lou, the Blue Orp. And "his girl" would be welcome to come with him. Wouldn't want to separate a couple, like that. Been thinking about getting a rooster (for protection, and to keep the flock in line) for my girls. Also starting to feel bad because, since they've...
Spring is starting to... spring! LOL! So, things are really busy around the Ranch right now. Getting the ground ready for planting, etc. Preparing a new pasture. Still repairing from all that wonderful storm damage. It's hard to find the time to get on here, like I used to. Bummer!
I think...
One of my Geese just dropped (I would have said laid, but that sounds like she knew what she was doing) an egg on my dogs outdoor hammock! What's hilarious is, there were three of them standing on the hammock, and the egg was just rolling around between them, and they're all looking at it like...
Just checking in on my fellow Oregonians with all this lovely weather... We had our barn roof collapse in yesterday, thankfully on the storage/equipment side, so the animals are safe. But looks like we lost quite a bit of equipment, etc. Won't know how much until everything dries out a bit. We...
I was out mucking out the barn yesterday when I heard a commotion coming from the chicken pen, looked in and saw my hen Geanne being followed around by some of the other hens and they were picking at her bum. As she was squawking pretty loudly, I ran in and picked her up. Her rear end was a...
Wonderful, wonderful, Geese! Love that they are so protective of our home and my other livestock (protect my chickens). They even get along well with my dogs for the most part. They are super friendly with me and my family, consider me a part of the Gaggle.
I love my Ameraucana's! They like to be petted, not as cuddly as my other chickens, but allow affection. A little more shy than my other chickens, as well. Takes them a bit to relax around you each day, but they do.
My Buffs are gorgeous, sweet, love to cuddle, and very intelligent. They are protective of the flock, the most watchful, etc. Only problem is a couple of them like to try and "preen" me with the same vigor they do the other chickens. Sweet, but Ow!
