They get ground barley, duck grower, layer diet, oyster shells, grit and whatever they can eat out of the pond/grass. Not much for bugs out yet other then flies.
Is there something I can do to get my ducks laying again. I get a very occasional egg from my Appleyards and my one Pekin hen lays every few days. They are all happy and healthy. Is there something I can add to their diet specifically to get a duck to lay more?
This one is of my older drake. He won Reserve Champion in the heavy class at this show :) He is in his eclipse plumage here.
My young drake, in his eclipse plumage
Drakes are 8-9 lbs and ducks 7-8 lbs. :)
I breed Silver Appleyards! love them!
· What made you decide to get this breed?
They are beautiful friendly ducks. Since they are a rare breed I wanted to help preserve the breed!
· Do you own them for fun? Breeding? Some other...
I am looking for breeders of Silver Appleyard ducks IN Canada. Looking to purchase some new lines for my flock! I am in Alberta but can travel some, or if you have hatching eggs available. or know of someone who has this breed please let me know :)
I found instructions for the 1202-1250-120-1266 models and it looks the same as those in pictures as well. but I was told 1500 so I'm going with the 1502...
I purchased a used Sportsman Hatcher last fall. It is a 1502 (non digital) model.
I have been trying to regulate the temperature in it for the last few days and am having major troubles.
I currently have it running with all 5 vent holes in back and 2 vent holes in side open and cannot get...
I have 9-10 week old Cornish Rock Giants. We are feeding a mixture of wheat chop and grower ration. They are not remotely close to butcher weight. In the last week I have had four lose the use of their legs. They seem fine and healthy in every other way. Are they lacking a vitamin or nutrient...
Is anyone familiar with Appleyard ducks? Can you tell me more about what they are like? What does adults sell for on average? I was at a sale the other day and they sold $80/bird, is that normal or high? Anyone breed them?
Why would a chick die before they start zipping? I have had 4 die this way so far this hatch. Temp is good and I've been keeping humidity around 70%. They all externally pipped
If I was to not use an egg turner so that I can fit in more eggs. The eggs must be hand turned once daily, correct? But how do you prevent losing too much humidity in this process causing the eggs to vacumm seal the chicks?
Thank you, I am currently treating for entritis and thought it was a waste to throw all the eggs away and my dog is getting fat so doesn't need to eat them all! Good luck on your cocci treatment!
If hatching eggs are suppose to be stored at 55F/12C, where should I keep them? Its winter here and too cold outside. I have no cold room. Would putting them in a cooler work? Should an ice pack be added somehow? Ideas anyone?!
