I have a juvenile embden goose who was attacked by a snapping turtle... he got her foot pretty badly, the center toe and webbing were almost bitten all the way off... we cut away all of the tissue that looked infected and since the center toe was just hanging by a thread and the bone completely...
So I hatched out 3 americauna chicks... two are doing well a third was the last to hatch, and is struggling. I've given them some kickin' chicken suppliment, and it's pecking but it's craw just isn't full like the others... I syringed it some egg yolk and it seems a little more active, but just...
Just a quick update, I haven't gone to the vitamin store, yet, but I did have some bee pollen on hand, which has a ton of vitamins and minerals including niacin. gave her a few grains, and 3 hours later she is walking again. Not 100% yet, but enough that I'm pretty sure this a vitamin deficiency...
Thanks for this thread.. I have a week old gosling who just stopped walking. One minute she was fine the next, NOT... I am heading to the store for Niacin and will let you know how it works.
Thanks HumbleHen,
I will move her and one other to keep her company into another tub... it appears worse this evening than it was yesterday. Looks like the "elbow" joint. and I have no idea if I can splint it or even if I should. I'm going to get some blue Emu oil, as that helps my husband when...
I have 10 silver Appleyard ducklings. They are about a week old. My smallest seems to have sprained her leg/foot... the toes/web seems fine, no swelling, but she is not putting weight on it, and is holding it sort of out to the side... She is the friendliest of the ducklings, so I am really...
Thanks for the reply... did you hatch yours out? I am wondering how long it is normal for them to be so wobbly... She keeps fipping herself over in the incubator.
This morning at around 9:30 I went to feel my animals... My goose was no longer on her nest but I went over to count the eggs to see how many she had hatched... there was a very wet gosling that at first I thought was dead... It looked at me, kicked it's leg as if to say "I'm here, please help...

This morning I went out to feed my silkies, and the pen was a MESS... it's been raining for days and as you know silkies aren't the smartest chickens, so they don't often go into the house which is about 1 1/2 feet off the ground, despite having a little ramp for them to use. One of the younger...
I'm halfway through my egg hatch and the ducks are looking good. 6 of 6 are developing nicely. I bought a stronger light for the goose eggs since I cannot see a darn thing so far. I took one out during the first week because it didn't smell right when I candled it. Didn't need light to say it...
I must have missed a response to my thread that was later deleted... I infer from this response that someone called me a murderer for killing the raccoon... I will say this about that.... I have chickens, geese, ducks, goats, horses, and cows for livestock. I also have a crapload of rescue...
Last fall I had a broody silkie and ended up having her foster 10 Black Stars... She was a great mom and the babies did incredibly well and had a higher survival rate once free ranging than did the 15 other black stars... She probably would have mothered them all but it was too cold for her to...
I have 5 hens and 1 roo. These are pretty hens, personalities are not overly friendly, despite being hand reared. It took a LONG time to find a roo that wasn't aggressive as all get out. This one is generally OK but will still rush you every so often. I also don't like that they are consistent...
I have a small flock of 4 adult hens and just bought another 12 chicks. These guys are NOT great production birds... they are ornamental and fancy... I have black, white, partridge, and buff adults. Show quality of the standard colors are around 7 bucks for breeder quality chicks. I recently...
I have 10 of these lovely hens who have just recently started laying. I'm really pleased with them though the egg size is still pretty small, I expect they will get larger as the hens mature. I do have one that is giving me double yolkers, and that egg is HUGE, so I don't doubt that they can lay...
I was sitting on my deck yesterday around 5 when as pretty as you please a young raccoon walks down my fence line! Hubby ran inside and grabbed a rifle, when he came out it was almost to the small barn, tried to take a shot, but my dog (crazy thing) saw the rifle and tried to climb on top of him...
One of my black star chicks always keeps her neck turned to the right so she look funny and always turns to the right.... she wasn't born this way and it's fairly recent that she started doing this... is it an injury? a nuerolgic thing or nutritional? Will it resolve itself? Any ideas on what...
